To be honest there was nothing there for me which screamed out Khan was looking sharp. Not saying he isn't but nothing stood out in particular and I still think Judah will win. And if Khan got nothing else out of the McCloskey fight, he got a ****ing pokey gypo haircut...... WTF atsch
I'm really surprised Roach hasn't fixed or attempted to fix Amir's footwork and guard. Khan doesn't turn the shoulder and blinds himself with his guard, one of the reasons he's a sucker for the uppercut.
:deal I think Freddie is more of an offensive coach then defensive. Khan needs to tighten his defence up if he's going to be "P4P"
what did you make of the left hook, for me it looked like it was looping and therefore not getting the full weight behind it.
Mate I thought the same thing. Last night me, No Mas and Beeston was sat in Arnie's watching Gavin train. John (No Mas) and I were talking about how well he throws that leading hook. First thing I did when I saw Khan do it today was remember how much better Gavin's looked. I'm always sceptical of Khan throwing wide shots. His defence is appalling at times hence why I believe Roach has kept him on the straight shots. In the early stages of his career when he was a little more 'care-free' he'd throw shots from different angles and leave himself wide open. With his chin not exactly being great this was causing some trouble for him and Roach (rightly so) took him right back to basics. His offence has been his defence if you get me. Personally I don't think Judah is the right opponent to be changing things against.
You're right. That's a good point actually. Freddie definitely isn't the same coach when it comes to defence. Almost all of his fighters are suckers for similar shots. Plus neither Manny nor Amir can rest and still play defense and not get hit. It did look strange and over-emphasized didn't it. I've never seen Khan loop it like that before. Poor technique and it kind of reminds me of how Katsidis throws his right hand. I think they're working on throwing that left over the top of Zab's jab, which he can be susceptible too. And then spinning to the left to avoid Judah's left hand. The shots to wear down Judah imo are the straight right to the stomach and left hook to the liver. Zab does not block body shots well at all. He's been eaten up with it in almost every fight he's lost.
that was the first person I though off, especially in the Guerrero and Marquez fights, he may also have done the same thing in the Escobado fight as well. I think this is going to be another horrible fight, I know Judah is past his best but I saw enough in his defence in his last fight to suggest he is going to give Khan nightmares, he will duck and dive out of dodge.
I thought Judah looked pretty poor in his last fight. Mabuza who is slow as molasses was having a lot of success and was winning that fight IMHO. Zab did look slick in spots and he was slipping the over the top stuff most of the time, but Mabuza was catching him to the body quite a bit and with single slow as hell punches. Mabuza was sloppy and really ponderous, he also got too confident. If you notice before he got tagged with that shot he was trying to switch hit and land a right as a lead. He squared himself up and presented Zab with a great opportunity to land a hail merry. Zab's defence has always been all style and little substance to me. I don't see much change tbh. He can't maintain form, loses poise and becomes easier to hit. This is Khan's fight to lose IMO. The only way Judah wins is if Amir gets caught with something big inbetween his flurries, which i suppose is made more likely with Khan's flaws of overreaching and leaving his feet behind. Khan needs to be patient early on and concentrate on the quality of his shots. He'll be the better conditioned fighter and Judah is certain to fade so he needs to stay relatively cautious, away from the inside and control the distance with his jab. If you remember Joshua Clottey basically made Zab quit with single right leads. It doesn't take much to disarm Judah. Khan would be crazy to be aggressive early on as it gives Judah the only chance he has imo.
I just hope Amir doesn't come out with his arms flapping like against Mccloskey, he is so open to counter punches when he flurries. Amir should just outjab Judah for a few rounds, start bringing in the straight right hand and left hook to the body that Freddie has Khan using really effectively. Judah will slow down dramatically after 8 rounds, then Khan can put the combinations together.
