this is the article i found on the £400k i 8understand better now. from hennessey`s camp not from warren. on Thaxton's camp have made a new offer to Amir Khan as they seek to seal a deal for the pair to meet. Only last week Khan withdrew from the bidding process for his proposed British title challenge to Thaxton, for which purse offers were due to be opened on Wednesday. Instead Khan will meet Denmark's Martin Kristjansen in London next month, a showdown that promoter Frank Warren hopes will be ratified as an eliminator for a WBO title shot. However Thaxton, who is pursuing Khan to present him with the four white feathers he promised the Bolton fighter should their domestic clash fail to materialise, has not given up hope. His promoter Mick Hennessy said: "Thursday afternoon, this week we sent a fax to Sports Network along with a copy to Asif Vali offering Amir £400,000 to fight Jon. I want to give Amir one final opportunity to do what we believe to be the right thing, "Jon's even prepared to fight him on his own turf, at the Bolton Arena on April 5th. British boxing fans want to see this fight so let's give it to them, all you need to do Amir is accept our generous offer and step up to the plate."
Interesting that ITV's sports website are highlighting Thaxton's new offer to Khan. Hennessy shows are usually on Sky so I wonder if it is their involvement that is enabling Thaxton's camp to put such a generous offer forward?
Thaxton is not ranked in the top 10-15 by any of the major sanctioning bodies so a fight with him doesnt help Khans goal for world title.
Begs the question why they made Thaxton any offer then? Perhaps there was no official offer as Thaxton has suggested or maybe it was designed to be turned down .....
Perhaps it was made or perhaps it wasnt made, we will never know. I'm saying that a fight with Thaxton doesnt help Khan if he wants to reach his goal to be the youngest British world champ.
I cant see how it would disadvantage him. Its the logical next step. If he really is going to be a genuine world champion, he should be able to beat Jon Thaxton!
is khan allowed to fight on a hennessey show televised on sky? if not, then any offer thaxton's team make is irrelevant. Thaxton as the smaller name has to accept a Fwank offer or forget theh payday altogether. Please correct me if I am wrong, not sure how this all works.
i don't care who offered who what...i just want to see the match-up. to me thaxton is the obvious logical opponent for khan if he is serious about stepping up his opposition and fighting someone who can punch and is on the slide but not yet shot. but unfortunately warren promoted the fight against earl as the one to decide the "top british lightweight" and so for him there is no gain for khan to beat thaxton. its riskier and costlier. i imagine the dane he was going to fight will cost warren much less in purse.
this does not make sense , Warren offers thaxton £125 grand for fight with Amir , Then Hennessey offers Khan £400 k to fight Thaxton. If Amir is getting that amount what is John getting or is he fighting for free which he said he would do at the start of these proceedings. So why does John turn down warrens offer or is this £400k split between champion / challanger ????
Khan has an exclusive deal with ITV. Instead of withdrawing from purse bids Warren should have secured them and then they would get to call the shots so to speak.
