It should have definatly have been stopped. To be fair to the lad though, he did show heart - people say he is spoilt by all the attention and money etc - but he was desperate to fight on - but his body just wouldn't allow it. He wasn't like, oh I'm hurt - I'm out of here thanks for the money guys. Sure he may have a chin of China, and may not be great - but he showed heart. He also showed good face ("the best man won") in an interview the morning after. For that I give him credit.
I agree - I think a lot of it goes beyond boxing. Anyway, Khan got less grief in the Aussie section - they were all pretty respectful to the lad in there after he got ktfo. A Brit actually posted in there trying to drum up support to rip into Kahn. Looking in, some more level headed Brits have taken refuge in there to post about the boxer. Taken refuge in the Auzzie forum (the Brits sporting enemy) - that can't be right.
Khan does have a big heart, but for his particular style thats a recipe for getting hurt, and against that guy last night it could have been worse, you saw his face after the 1st knock down, it went to one side as if he had no control over it, i felt a wee bit sorry for him and you dont want to see someone get hurted more than they need to, thats why im saying the refs should do their jobs no matter whos fighting who!!
Agree there, if that was Prescott on his arse then it would of been stopped. Khan was just allowed to continue because of who he is, which is ridiculous really, this is a guys safety on the line for **** sake.
I know what your saying Willie. It should have definitely been stopped. Khan was all over the place. I guess the ref was under extreme pressure to let him carry on - but that's not going to help Khan if he gets really hurt.
Can't blame the ref in this instance. Normally that would be stopped, but you can just imagine the questions that would have been raised if he'd have stopped it after the first knockdown "Could Khan have continued?" :-( He was up against Warren, Sky, the fans in the arena, and the paying public.
Do you think its possible for him to change his style? Some boxers have managed it - Gatti, Juan Manuel Marquez have both adapted for example. If Khan doesnt change then he will be beaten badly again. I agree about his face, he was staggering and had a weird grimace on when the ref made the first count. Myself and my mate just looked at each other - we knew he was ****ed.
yeah thats all im saying, boxing can sometimes be brutal and the refs need to know when someone is hurted, i was at the show last night, went down to watch steven bell, and paul smith good atmosphere and some good fights
i know what your saying mate, but anyone could see he was still all over the place, that guy couldnt miss him every punch was a bomb, theres a chance khan is burnt out, hes had 7 fights since he fought me ok some of his fights have been easy but its the 10 weeks training for every fight, takes its toll.
Indeed, it should have been stopped. Anybody with any knowledge of the sport knew he was ****ed, even my mate who has barely seen boxing in his life knew it. I just have compassion for the ref in this instance, he was in a very very difficult position and had to make a quick judgment.
anytime someone with a solid punch lands on him then he could be in trouble again, he will need to change his style and mentality that he can just do his thing and get away with it,
The 'untouchable' comment he made the other day spoke volumes about his mentality: utterly arrogant without any real cause to be given the problems he has encountered against the competition he has faced.
Have you watched the interview this thread is about Beatboxer? I think Khan gives a good account of himself considering it's the morning after he has been ktfo. I can't think of a huge amount of other boxers who would behave like Khan did the next morning after a beating - boxers are largely a self centred bunch - they have to be! For example take Arthurs comments today. Personally I think Khan has behaved like a Gent here. What did you think of the interview?
i think khans statement that he will still be a world champion within 12 months hints that he has not and will not learn from this loss.
