So an article over at the scene backs up what we all feared. Khan says Richard Schaefer told him the fight with Maidana doesn't make sense because Marquez is a bigger name and that people in England don't know who Maidana is. He goes on to say that if he wants to build up his name in America he needs to fight Marquez.

There is too much of this **** going. Maidana is not well known in England but is Marquez? **** no. Even when he fought Mayweather they didn't market the fight, and I don't know of any casuals that stayed up to watch that ****. Has the average person in England even heard of Marquez? Sure they could market it but they could do the same with Maidana. Sky coud hype his ass up to be a monsterous puncher that knocked out the goldenboy Ortiz, they could talk about Khan/Prescott and whether Khan can do anything to avoid being knocked out by an even bigger puncher and overall better fighter etc. As for American fans, I don't buy that **** either. I know Americans are thought of as stupid but when it comes to boxing they know a lightweight when they see one, and Marquez is a lightweight. How you gonna justify that **** to them?

This fight would be okay if Khan was fighting 5/6 times a year. 3 challenging fights and another 2/3 easyish fights to stay busy is fine by me, but if you're only fighting 2/3 times a year, then every fight has to be a challenge at this stage. After beating Malignaggi he was talking about fighting again in July. Marquez would've been fine for July but if he's fighting in the winter, it has to be a legit 140 fighter if he doesn't want to be seen as a ducker. The Maidana fight doesn't really excite me either, I think Khan beats him pretty easy but at least he's in the same weight class.

Khan will never fight Maidana, it's way too risky. He can talk all he wants about big names and all that crap but the truth is he is not willing to get into the ring with any legitimate lww with power anytime soon. What pisses me off is how he keeps saying that Bradley and Alexander should fight each other while he goes after a 37 year old lightweight coming to the end of his career.

As much as I hate to say it, Khan-JMM makes a lot more money and generates a lot more interest in the US than a fight with Maidana. JMM also has the Mexican die-hards behind him; no **** in Argentina has ever heard of the plodder Maidana. As for over here, Schaefer is blowing out of his ass. WTF does he know about this country? Khan against Maidana or JMM over here generates around the same level of interest, IMO.

By the looks of it, it seems Khan actually has requested the fight everyone is claiming he is ducking. It's evident that GBP are the problem, not Khan. Wonder if the haters will see this?

I really don't like Khan-JMM as a fight. Khan has all of the assets to make this a fairly one-sided affair. He is much bigger, much faster and there is no hope in hell of JMM KOing him, IMO. As always, I shall be cheering on JMM, but I think Khan keeps him at range for the distance of the fight:-(.

I find it hard to give Khan much credit when he does **** like this. Marquez is a lightweight at best. Khan has no business fighting him, especially not when there are better challenges at his own weight.

he already got to beat up on the shell of Barrerra, I don't think Marquez should take this.

You know, mate - Khan's a big enough name in the UK that GBP really can't tell him what to do. He could have gone with Top Rank, Goosen or anyone really and written his own ticket. If he wants Maidana or Bradley, then he can push for it. GBP aren't his boss, it's the other way round at this stage.

Maidana is not anywhere near Marquez so Khan gets slagged off for wanting to fight the better man.....

The better but smaller man who came in at 133 for his last fight. This is a physical mismatch.

Khans PPV numbers in this country are abysmal...I suspect that a large portion of those who actually buy the fight do so in the hope that he gets KO'd again. He isn't a big name here, at least not commercially.

This is what amuses me...Marquez would beat Maidana every day of the week.

What amuses most people is how Khan's fans justify him ducking Maidana by saying how crude he is and that Khan would school him easily. If that's the case why doesn't he just fight him? Marquez is a much better fighter than Maidana, that's a given, but he's a lightweight and does not pose much of a threat at lww, Maidana on the other hand does pose a threat and that's exactly why Khan will not take the fight. It really is that simple.

Khan doesn't control his destiny in the ring, he leaves it to his advisors/promotional team! So what is the point of shitting on him?
The boy trains and listens to roach then gets a phone call from goldenboy rep.

  11. The difference between lightweight and light welterweight is nothing. Marquez is the top lightweight in the world and by far the tougher opponent even all the way up at light welterweight. Yet if Khan fights Marquez instead of Maidana then he gets stick for ducking Maidana?

    It's almost laughable.

that being the case then the WBA needs to strip Khan.

Maidana is the interim champ and his mandatory challenger.

they should strip him and let Maidana-Ortiz fight for the belt.

So you think Marquez is effective a lww? Do you actually think he poses more of a threat to Khan at lww than Maidana, Bradley or Alexander? If the difference between lightweight and light welterweight is nothing Khan should come down to lightweight if he wants to fight Marquez.
