 Why's that? Because anyone who thinks Khan shouldn't be picking on old lightweights has to be a hater? You're the one talking about how **** Maidana is, not me.

I'm talking about how **** Maidana is because thats precisely what he is. I don't understand this obsession with Maidana, if you want to hit Khan over the head with someone use Bradley or Alexander, not a C+ level fighter who got outworked and outboxed by someone Khan practically shut out. Fact of the matter is, and it must be unsavoury for you to swallow, Marquez is without doubt a bigger threat to Khan than Maidana...at least Marquez will have a chance of landing.

I'm watching Maidana vs Ortiz now..... in the 2nd round Maidana was all but gone - saved by the bell.

Slow as molasses as well..... but if the short right lands :yikes

In fairness he did well to get up after the first KD in the 2nd - his stones aren't in question..... unlike Ortiz.

That's not a fact at all. If it was a fact that the lightweight Marquez, who has shown that he is not effective at a higher weight, is a riskier fight than Maidana there would be no thread discussing what a ***** move it is for Khan to look for the fight. You can't just write everyone off as a hater because they don't share your views on Khan, if he fought Maidana, Bradley, Alexander, Ortiz or any other top lww I would have absolutely no problem with him.

  7. Against Floyd Mayweather at welterweight for ****'s sake.

He'll be stepping up 5 pounds against Amir Khan.

Marquez was only beaten by Mayweather up at welter - Khan at lightwelter isn't anywhere near as big a challenge.

Floyd is as fast, harder & more accurate puncher, better defence, better chin and a more varied offense than Khan.

Looking at it in the cold light of day, barring the 2nd round he was at least as competitive as Mosley was, and lasted the full 12 unlike Hatton.

Maidana is a game little fighter with massive power but also a massive list of flaws.

Marquez is smaller, but is far more accurate and varied than Maidana, and won't be hurt by anything that Khan throws back.

In my mind, if I was putting odds on this one it would be as follows.....

    Marquez 4/7
    Khan 6/4

    Maidana 3/1
    Khan 2/7

As a matter of interest, how would you see the shorter Bradley doing against Marquez?

So if Maidana is such a lack of risk, do you not think they would throw him in with Khan, let Khan destroy him, and then hold Khan up as the best in the division?

But they haven't done that, they're taking a fight against a much smaller old fighter, that's going to leave loads of questions and loads of critics.

That obviously makes less sense if you are a promoter trying to build Khan up, so therefore, they're afraid of Maidana, whatever his flaws are.

Khan should be stripped of his meaningless trinket.

He is the definition of paper champion, which goes hand in hand with his paper chin.

They also have a slice of Maidana as a result of him beating Ortiz.

Let Maidana carry on being the devastating beast knocking over B & C level fighters whilst Khan takes a risky (and foolish IMO) assignment against Marquez.

If I was Khan I'd be demanding Maidana right now, leave Marquez either for later or permanently.

Of course Maidana is nowhere as good as Marquez, they are like night and day when it comes to skill level, but what Maidana does have is power and he is a legit light welter, that is what Khan is avoiding at all costs. If Marquez could be even half as effective at light welter as he is a lightweight it would be a really good test for Khan but I don't think he can. If Khan really wants the fight he should come down to 135.

'At least Marquez will have a chance of landing'

Problem is, people think Khan is a top class fighter. He's no better than Ortiz or Cayo IMO, and has arguably the worst chin in boxing.
