Come on, Arran. You're not comparing apples with apples. Ali is a well-respected figure that won the adulation from the world before 9/11. His accomplishments and status were never going to be immediately thrown out of the window, because he had already earned it. The situation for him will always be different to the situation of Khan, who's public-status was born after 9/11 and during 7/7.

Race relations were far worse back then than they are now, ignorant people and cultures would move out of areas when another creed started moving in.

This coming at a time when people were not exploited to different cultures on a large scale.

You don't know the half of it, because the silly comments that he makes, are never documented and highlighted like Khan's. I'm trying to look for a quote of his where he was reviewing a magazine's top 5 fighters to ever come out of Britain. He was annoyed at Lennox being number one, saying he had been knocked out and lost before, and that he [Lennox] doesn't deserve to be above him because he [Calzaghe] hasn't ever been defeated.

I've managed to find the below, though:

    http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/sport/article-5499540-i-am-the-best-says-honest-joe.do

And while we're at it, he says the following too about Roy Jones

Why do these threads concerning Khan's popularity always turn in to arguments concerning race?

A very small percentage of the people who don't like Khan don't like him because race is the factor. A lot less than is being made out, or is continually made out in these threads.

    Apples with Apples.

You're looking at a sport that has a very different type of following, and one that doesn't give attention to a single individual like boxing does. Khan's presence in the media and his name is way bigger than those four cricketers, who the average joe on the street don't even know exist.

Waiting for Roys plunge into the dark was a wise investment for joe.

A great fighter though but not o the level alot of people think he is on.

With all due respect. That's bollocks. A significant portion of boxing fans in the U.K are racist mongs. Even if a lot don't admit it. You're fooling yourself if you think otherwise. If Khan done everything Ricky Hatton did, would he be as popular? He would in his arse.
