Seems like the khan and salita camp have 14 days to decide on whether the fight will take place, whoever is the winner will have to face maidana or if refused khan or salita will be stripped of the title.....just got this from the scene...!!http://www.***********.com/?m=show&id=22129
I think the fight will be confirmed next week, Dec 5 in London. Maidana gets to fight the winner, lets see how Warren handles this, for me time has come Khan has to get in with a puncher again.
I agree. The fight will happen, I'm sure of it. As for putting Khan in with Maidana, I say do it as well:good. People are looking into the Ortiz win and the Boxrec KO% too much, IMO. Ortiz dropped Maidana with less than stellar shots and he isn't as good as people are crediting him for, IMO. I honestly think Khan wins against Maidana if and when it happens.
If Khan boxes smart against Maidana he can win, and win easily. It is a fight that needs to happen should he beat Salita (which he will IMO) because it will only set the vultures into overdrive if he vacates and moves in another direction. For all of Khan's shortcomings, he has much more heart than Ortiz - who basically bitched out against Maidana (when Khan tried to get up against Prescott). I'd like Khan to plant his feet a bit more and relax himself rather than sidestepping the ring constantly.
I know styles make fights and Maidana looping hooks would on paper trouble Khan, but Khan has to look at it like this, he out boxed Kotelnik while Kotelnik beat Maidana in points. Your right Ortiz put Maidana down with normal shots nothing too powerful, and i dont see Maidana as some highly skilled boxer he is more of a brawler. Khan with a good gameplan and speed and boxing skills should beat him. Would be a great fight also because all it would take Maidana is to land 1 or 2 shots and could have Khan in big trouble so this make this must see fight.
Yeah he needs to relax and chill out a bit, also yes needs to plant his feet a bit more. I am sure Roach will point this out to Khan, at times Khan should of traded a bit more with Kotelnik, but he will learn with fights to balance offence with his more improved defence right.
Mate, I reckon it's the looping punches that is Khan's archilles heel. Prescott wiped the floor with him using those looping punches which had devestating power. I can't see how Khan will avoid it. And when hit by a few, I can't see how Khan will stay standing. He's going to need a real gameplan against a brawler like Maidana and at this point in time I think he'll come up short if Maidana is the next opponent following Salita. Even Dr. Roach was reluctant in putting him in with a puncher like Maidana (in an interview I watched) until Khan had fought in a few more fights to develop dealing with: a) pressure from come-forward brawlers b) planting his feet more (increase power in his punches) He needs a further fight after Salita before being able to deal with Maidana. Khan loses IMO.
any smart "boxer" who circles and establishes the jab beats maidana i'm convinced of it khan is to much work for Salita it'd competitive though
Yeah, he has to take the Maidana fight if and when he beats Salita. The best thing to have done would have been to sign a rematch with Prescott before the Colombian got beat, just to exorcise the ghost of the defeat. But with Prescott's defeat that is basically a hiding to nothing now. So the next best thing to do is to get in with another hard hitting slugger type, and who better to fit the bill than Maidana.
Is Williams vs Pavlik not Dec 5? Can't wait for that, Williams is my favourite USA fighter (bar Mosley). Will fight anyone - and will topple Pavlik.
Nice to see everyone have a good Khan debate. Wonder how long it'll be 'til someone invades the thread? Looking like it might be a unification with Hlatshwayo. I wanted to see Mosley school him:-(. Still unconfirmed but as good as on. As SouthpawSlayer says, bound to be a SBO double-header and, given the fights on show, I would happily pay for it:happy.
Khan might not even have to face Maidana... From rafaels Notebook:- Any of the proposed opponents could beat him
Ortiz may have dropped him with shots, yet that is because he has power on the level of Maidana - Khan would have a very slim chance of actually dropping Maidana. Khan is the better boxer no doubt about that, but we all know his problems with his chin and Maidana is a bigger puncher than Prescott for me, which spells trouble for Khan. Khan was caught by Kotelnik on a number of occasions and Kotelnik was very uncomfortable boxing on the front foot - how will Khan deal with a proper pressure fighter like Maidana?
Hater! I see where you're coming from but I still don't buy it- plenty of others have agreed with me as well so it's evident Maidana isn't the beast he's been made out to be^^^. Maidana can be outboxed, IMO. As for how Khan deals with pressure: "We've got to learn how to deal with guys who put pressure on because guys are going to watch this tape and see he had a little trouble with the pressure. It's something we'll work on, of course. It gives us some great stuff to work on in the gym. We'll sit down and watch the tape and he will improve."
