Khan says he has more fans than Brook in Sheffield

Amir Khan is box office.

People pay to see him get beat. People pay to watch the fights. He draws big numbers whether anybody likes it or not. A lot of people in this ****ry hate his guts, but STILL watch the fights......thats how you know he is a massive draw and his popularity is similar in the US also.

he has never fought in front of a sell out arena in America, in fact his last fight was only watched by a live crowd of just over 3,500 and there were hundreds of comps handed out as well.

 

Yeah I judge popularity on two things, ticket sales and viewing figures. Khan's viewing figures in america have been really good. He's moved networks now and SHO don't have as many subscribers as HBO so there ratings are always lower. A comparison is Garcia vs Morales 2 did 729k and Khan vs molina did 616k which is still decent. I will find the HBO ratings as they have been posted in the general somewhere and khan did well on HBO.

Khan vs Judah did 1.25m on HBO which is really good, attendance was around 5/6k.

Ticket sales, that's another story altogether where khan does not sell well at all BUT due to declining popularity of boxing in the US, ticket sales are generally poor unless you have two big names. Excluding the mayweathers pacquiaos etc, hardly any top fighters have big attendances by fighting guys with small fanbases unless you go to their hometown.

Someone like Donaire is a top quality fighter, does poor attendances and he's been fighting on HBO for a while now. Another good example is Sergio Martinez and JCC Jr. Sergio has been doing alright on HBO and JCC has been doing good viewing numbers but attendance wise he's been average.

Yet when you put two good fighters together like JCC and Martinez, you got yourselves a massive fight that people will turn up to. If khan was to rematch peterson/garcia, the attendances would be far higher than before and khan vs peterson was well on track to sell out the mandalay bay arena which holds 10 or 12k.

So when paulie goes on about khan's popularity in the US, he is def going overboard. It takes two good fighters to generate a good attendance.

They know the build up to a Khan-Mayweather fight would have drawn a lot of numbers. Mayweather wanted to fight Khan because he knew it was easy work, and easy night, looking good doing it and a payday. Amir Khan is a much bigger draw in the US and in the UK than Robert Guerrero. But Khan looked to far ahead and got finished well before a Mayweather fight.

 

:good if you read my post just above, this is what I mean, it takes two good fighters with drawing power in the US to sell out arenas otherwise its generally a poor attendance.

 

Ok sorry, seems like I misunderstood ya point, yeah at the prices the tickets are on sale, I assume it will also flop. I'm not even interested in him fighting diaz, someone like ashley theophane would have done.

Amir Khan could fight in an empty arena, but make up the numbers by people paying to see the fight. Full arenas mean ****, a lot of people prefer to pay and watch the fight on tele "best seat in the house and all that"....selling out arenas isn't the be all and end all. It would be if the fight wasn't available on box office, but it is, and people pay just to see Amir Khan do the chicken dance.

Amir Khan doesnt really fight on box office here, its normally on Sky Sports....but people still tune in to see the fight man. It cant be denied.

He is an astronomical draw compared to someone like Kell Brook.

Amir Khan used to be box office, if he was then he'd be fighting on ppv in America and england, he'd also be a ticket seller in america which time and again has proved that he isn't.
