Those who say Khan can't shift tickets in America, are probably ignoring the fact that noone shifts tickets in America. Not outside of Pac, May and Cotto, anyway. Over the past few years since Khan's been in States, no one in his division has drawn attention in neutral venues like he has. Not Bradley, not Alexander, not PEDerson, not anyone. ****, even Juan Manuel ****in' Marquez hit the same gate numbers with Katsidis that Khan did with Maidana. And we're talking about a Mexican legend here.

As much as you guys don't like to admit it, Khan, for a Brit, has done extremely well for himself over there. So much so that even after two back-to-back defeats, he's still probably the most talked about LWW. ****, if I remember correctly, Garcia-Morales II -- which was supported by three other world title fights with Malignaggi, Quillen and Alexander -- barely did better viewing numbers than Khan's shitty fight with Molina .

Exactly. This claim of Khan not being able to sell in America, is a worthless claim. In fact, it's inaccurate when you look at the numbers of other fighters over there.

 

Yep even the apparent heir to the PPV throne in adrien broner sold 4800 tickets in his recent fight and did good viewing figures. He may go on to become a PPV star but he will also need to come up against other popular fighters for his fights to sell arenas.

yeah seems like a decent guy just he is thick as a plank which puts in a real bad light Don't see that fight happening this year anyway. If kell wins, probably will defend his title in sheffield and khan beats diaz, he'll go on to fight garcia or peterson.

 

The original question was does Khan have more fans in Sheffield and the simple answer is no he doesn't.

 

To say no one sells tickets is a bit of an exaggeration.

Adamek in New Jersey does, Chavez Jr., Canelo, Alexander in St. Louis, Ward in Oakland, Peterson in Washington. And that's after Floyd, Pac and Cotto.

The problem there is they keep putting fights in the wrong locations. Golden Boy for a major promoter don't understand how to build up a local following for a fighter.

But for someone like Khan there's just not a location in the US where they're going to get behind him. It's not as if there's a state with a massive Asian population where Khan can base himself.

 

hometown is different though, you will generally get good attendances for those guys. Yeah JCC and Canelo are two with fanbases that were increasing, not so sure on JCC now though, canelo vs trout should do well in texas.

Peterson vs holt was an average attendance at best, his fight vs khan did alright numbers I suppose.

GBP should host most of khans fights in NYC, think they will do better there. I mean why the hell was khan vs judah in LV, neither guy can draw, zab would have brought a decent crowd if it was held in NYC. Also there is a decent asian community there too who might have turned out.

 

That's exactly right! No one with the exception of Mayweather, Cotto and Pacquaio can really sell tickets in big numbers. Khan has done very well for himself in US, especially considering he has had no where near support from home as say Hatton did.

 

Great point.Lots of people of all races in GB were proud of him in the olympics.He has done well as a pro,with a few hiccups,and was a modest lad which endeared him even more.He hasn't the interesting ability to trash talk of a Haye or even say,Fury,and obviously can't back it up like Mayweather so why do it?

 

Exactly. He would have been better off adopting a nice guy personality similar to what Oscar De La Hoya did. This bad guy image makes him come across as a lost twat.
