I can think of maybe six guys Mayweather hasn't fought who deserve a title shot more than Khan, but according to the WBC, Amir Khan is the #1 Welterweight contender to Mayweather's title. 1 .- Amir Khan (GB) SILVER 2 .- Luis Carlos Abregu (Argentina) LATINO 3 .- Leonard Bundu (Sierra Leone) COMM 4 .- Antonin Decarie (Canada) 5 .- Marcos Maidana (Argentina) 6 .- Ionut Dan Ion (Romania/Canada) 7 .- David Avanesyan (Russia) BALTIC 8 .- Robert Guerrero (US) 9 .- Brandon Rios (US) 10 .- Josesito Lopez (US) 11 .- Ray Robinson (US) 12 .- Charlie Navarro (Venezuela) FECARBOX 13 .- Mikael Zewski (Canada) NABF 14 .- Yoshihiro Kamegai (Japan) OPBF 15 .- Alfonso Gomez (Mexico) No Pacquiao, Bradley, Marquez, Brook, Thurman, Alexander, Porter... What does it say about your ranking organization when the seven top guys in the division aren't even ranked as contenders?
them rankings are a joke, but i think they consciously pick people to make a fight or get the belt, floyd wont fight pacquio, noone wants to se marquez again bradley is with top rank, brook is stabbed, thurman hasnt even done as much as khan so alexander and porter left
I rank Khan 11 or 12 as his WW resume is beyond shallow and based on his beating of Collazo but no question his time at 140 has to carry some weight (no pun intended) in terms of facing him for any WW. Having said that, let me say I don't think Mayweather/Khan is a good fight right now at all... ...But I also must admit that the winner of the Khan/Alexander fight (which I'm glad got signed) will leap up or solidify their spot in the WW mid top 10.
With the exception of Marquez, all of them have had belts recently at 147 hence why they haven't currently got a ranking. Also, considering there's no danger of Mayweather fighting a mandatory, I wouldn't worry about them.
