"The Baddest Band in all the land!" Mitt work is impressive to watch. These recent fighters seem to make it an attraction, a critical part of their camps and media days. My biggest thing is.... This content is protected No respect, no common-sense, none, none whatsoever. (Chinchecker) "None!"
That's what I was thinking a few camps back. He's still letting himself get hit during mittwork even though he's got that condition? :-(
I like the thought of him improving greatly, but it's just mitt-work. Khan always looks impressive hitting the pads. It's whether that can translate in the ring, that counts.
honestly how can anyone say if he's improved or not, where are the sparring videos in the peterson 2 csmp, did he learn how to spin off the ropes? has he learned how to deal with pressure? does he have upper body movement? aside from handspeed boxers such as kevin mitchell here in the UK have better technique, repertoire and adaptability then khan.
peterson wrestled him to the canvas, he has never got his legs tangled and slipped or slipped while trying to throw a punch, see hamed for balance issues.
I hope for Khan's sake that you are correct Laz, as much as Khan annoys me it cannot be denied that he could be superb at 147lbs.:good
Can't please all the people all the time. The same people who complain about Khan, are the same people who go and watch his videos and fights. If he wasn't ****stani or British, then he'd probably get praised!
He looks in condition but why isn't Freddy working on Khans defense whilst he is doing the mitts? Why isn't Freddy smothering Khans work while Khan is practising his shots? Why isn't Freddy walking him down while Khan practises his offense, it's like they don't work on their weaknesses only their strengths! I'm telling you now someone is going to expose Khan big time when his speed fails to overwhelm his opponent.
But Laz his high static guard is horrible because when he does that, he can't attack. Worse still when he back pedels or gets driven to the ropes like he was against Maidana and Peterson, and he has the high guard, he's a sucker for uppercuts! All he can end up doing is try to ride out the storm. He can't afford to keep getting himself trapped and that high guard does him no favours. He really needs to start showing some head movement. At least try and get the other guy off balance so he can counter with his fast combos. Surprised Roach doesn't seem to drill any of this, but if he showed a better defense he could set up his punches way better instead of throwing his flurries and hoping one or two of them land. I have mixed feelings about roaches school of boxing. He makes great offensive fighters but the defense lets them down big time. Pac is a freak because he is just so good at getting off, it's rare other fighters initiate their own work against him so he gets away with it, but the Roach style doesn't seem to work with everyone. Too many flaws and I think Khan can actually do better, with his speed, height and reach and athleticism could be a real force if he just did some of the basics better and improved his fighting style. I don't believe Roach gets the best out of Khan and hasn't added many dimensions to his game.
Very true. Though we can't expect something dramatic from a mitt-man. Roach is great at motivating his fighters though. They always seem very confident. De la Hoya is a great example.
The things I like most are the little side steps and back steps he's taking to set up his counter right hand & combinations. They compliment his style well. The things they were planning to do against the Peterson fight seemed like good ideas. If Khan can actually apply in the ring, he can continue to develop.
