Shame. And no opponent yet, obviously scouring flyweight for a non puncher. This content is protected has agreed a new multi fight deal with promoter Frank Warren, it was confirmed today at a Manchester press conference. Both the Commonwealth lightweight champion and Warren were present to promote Khan's next fight, which will take place at the MEN Arena, Manchester, on September 6. Khan, 18-0 (14) will defend his Commonwealth lightweight title, although no opponent has yet been confirmed. Warren, who has guided Khan since he turned professional in 2005, said: "We have agreed a new long term deal. "I am extremely happy and delighted to contintue working with Amir, and we are both looking forward to the future. "I have every confidence that Amir will become a world champion." A new television contract for Khan, whose fights have previously been screened on ITV1, is expected to be confirmed next week. Khan, 21, added: "Frank Warren is the best promoter out there, he looks after me and and he is going to take me to where I want to be." http://www.frankwarren.tv/drill/News/Articles/2008/07/07/text-khan-in-new-deal-with-warren.html
You Never know it maybe a solid professional at lightweight. There again it could be a blown up super featherweight.
Maybe... he fits the criteria ie he is fat, a midget and FW saw him at the circus. Never been a straw weight though.
Does Ivan Calderon have a twin brother somewhere? No doubt Fwank will be on the buzzer if he does......... In all seriousness, I think it could be Lee McAllister - followed by a serious diet to get down to 130. I know Frank is a twat, but he isn't stupid enough to put his main cash cow in with any of the champs at 135, whilst he isn't really 140 material currently.
Well Bobby did start at 148 - perhaps another 8lbs and we could have a new WBF lightwelter champ in Amir.
you think mcallister will risk his reputation as a 2 weight world champion to move back down to lightweight? :yikes
atsch i forgot lee mcallister was one of the greats of british boxing...... but in his great interview which jeff kindly provided he accused khan of ducking him and not showing any interest...... well i think bobby is rather big boned but crispy duck and pizza may do that to you :think
there was something a few weeks back, lee mcalister saying he was going to be a two weight world champ by winning the wbf light welter title, what a disgrase. Ive heard Mitchell vs Burns is on the undercard.
I think Warren is the best promoter for him. Warren has done good by him. I'm happy with the fights he's taken except I'd like it if he faced Thaxton/Romanov. This way he faces fighter he is supposed to and they can both hit a bit.
i suppose frank is the market leader in getting guys to world titles, but they bypass the british title and euro title and face chumps which teach them nothing about fighting at the elite level, meaning they get exposed once they unify or have a superfight.
Suppose so, looking at it who else is there in terms of promoters in the UK ? Hobson Hennassy and some regional players.
