IB, you put it best, but most opinions i've encountered on the matter reflect the same sentiment. I still feel a little funny about the stoppage. I feel Khan should've had one more chance based on the way he looked at the time the bout was stopped. Like I said though, time to move on. I'm happy for garcia.
I thought it was a little early, but truthfully I'm not going to bicker. I just think, Khan was worst off on the first KD. Considering he was out before he hit the floor. And Bayless let him continue on very bad legs. Depends what you want to judge it on, all the other punishment. It was good. On that one knockdown itself. Bad. Overall. A tad early, IMO. But nothing to cry over.
Like a few posters said, I thought it should have been stopped in one of the earlier KDs, but then when it was actually stopped, Kenny gives him a count, then Amir responds properly and he waves it off - why give him a count and inspect him if you're gonna stop it? Well, that's not a serious argument, obviously. Anyway, I thought it should have been stopped earlier, but after we were at the point we were, he should have let it go, because Khan was clearly there in the head at that point and fighting back.
Before the third knock down, he was getting hit with huge blows. Even if Bayless allowed him to continue, he was not going to make it to the end of the round. It was a good stoppage, Khan couldn't even lift up his arms.
Too early for my taste. His legs were gone but he seemed coherent enough. One more knockdown would've sealed the deal though. Not surprised that so many think it was a good stoppage. That's just how it goes in this modern day pussified era of boxing fans.
the stoppage was of course WAY too late for the early knockdown, when his legs were clearly GONE. I guess he got the benefit of the doubt because he was the bigger champ/fav? Bad decision by ref to let it go on then. The final stoppage was too premature, he had recovered by then. He was clearly coming back into it, legs were back, clear vocal response, anyone could see that from the refcam. I expect the ref was feeling bad for not stopping it earlier and trying to make amends by stopping it now whislt Khan was not quite 100%. The overall pattern was that Khan was getting beaten up for 2 rounds, and an early points lead means nothing to that, so the stoppage when it happened cant really be complained about. By the time of the final stoppage he could have bounced back and won it, but to be brutally honest its better than he paid the price for his indiscretions. Its a better lesson for him and it will stop him trying to imitate Pacman in the future. and Garcia deserves the win for taking the fight to Khan successfully.
Good post, i thought the exact same i thought the Chisora stoppage was a bit premature fair enough he was taking some big shots but looked to be ok, where as Kahn looked completely gone.
he gave him the champions benefit of the doubt by letting him try for a round and a half to get his bearings back and he got dropped twice more..... good stoppage, bayless is the best in the biz. he was looking to stop it when amir got knocked down for the third time and should have maybe waved it off before he even got up but he gave him the champions benefit of the doubt once more and gave him the look over after getting up and he just didn't like what he saw and how Amir responded so he waved it off....he was more than fair imo and gave Amir mad chances to come back, so muich so that it might damage his punch resistance even more. He had already taken a pretty bad beating, he could have been seriously hurt as Garcia no longer had any respect for his power and was walking through everything he threw.
If it was that KD alone I'd say its premature, but based off the damage he had been taking prior and the jelly legs offa the other knockdowns, I'd say its solid
