I want to see Khan go up against someone who will really test (or destroy) him

Khan vs Julio Diaz would be nice to see

thaxton is definitely on the slide but he's still better than khan's opposition to date. i'd certainly rate him above gomez and the 2 round clip of the columbian didn't really tell me if he's a better fighter than jono either

    thats what you think!!

you say it like its a fact, just coz you said it it must be true:lol:

i think gomez is a more dangerous fight for khan than thaxton would be thaxtons not as aggressive hes a soft sort of bloke, he wouldnt hurt a fly.. hes a freindly old grandad with nothing left.. he gets tired after 3 rounds

he wouldnt put enough pressure on khan, he'd let khan fight from range and he'd get stopped in about 5 rounds

And you say that like its fact...

I actually agree with your analysis of that fight, but fact is, Thaxton is the most legitimate opponent Khan will have faced. Just coming off a European title shot, and recently British champion.

Tells its own story of course.

Graham Earl was the former british champion, commonwealth and WBU champ just comming of a WBO title fight... and was the no1 lightweight in Britain

    Thaxtons just an old grandad

Former being the key word there. And it was the "interim" WBO title.

    Romanov via mid-rounds KO.

He'll give away a few of the early rounds, but once he starts finding the range and countering Khan he'll take him out.

Thats how I see it at the moment.

Actually at the time of that fight it was recognised by almost everyone not called Frank Warren, Amir Khan or Graham Earl that Thaxton was #1 in the country.

You seemed to be building up Gomez quite a bit, but the truth is this shot version of Gomez was beat easily enough(after an early storm) by Carl Johanneson for the British Super-Featherweight title. Carl has proven himself to be below European level aswell so what does that say ?

Anyway if Thaxton is such an old grandad then why didn't Amir take his British title off of him ?

and if anyone wants to bring the age thing into it(Khan's been 21 for nearly 9 months now anyway) then how the hell did Paul Appleby win a British title at 20 ?

Frank Warren withdraw Khan from purse bids for his mandatory defence of the Comoonwealth title against Jon Thaxton, and then managed to keep his title.

You can right Thaxton off as an 'old grandad', but he's an old grandad who Frank Warren has proven to be vary wary of and he's an old grandad that isn't afraid to test himself and try and win a European title.

Gomez style gives nightmares for khan coz of the amount of pressure he puts on you for the first four rounds.

I'm not saying i think Gomez is world class fighter but he knows how to beat people up for the first couple of rounds, he was killing johaneson for them first 4 rounds he nearly stopped him at one point,, johansen was trapped agains the ropes for 4 rounds non stop

and frank warren offerd the fight to thaxton but he turned it down, he turned down a hundred grand thats his own fault the fight didnt happen

So do you think Khan would struggle against John Murray who'd be able to put up a much better effort of what Gomez did only over the full 12.

Gomez was in that fight for 3 rounds not 4, infact the 3rd was the turning point, at no time in that fight did I feel Johanneson was getting stopped. Yes he was under a good bit of pressure but it became clear he was just soaking up the early pressure and coming up with the much better punches.
Gomez may have landed more on Johanneson than Khan but the fights were of similar difficulty for the two winners.

I seem to remember Khan been offered somewhere in the region of £300,000 to fight Thaxton but that was turned down. It was after that, that they went to mandatory purse bids where either they would have to face each other or Khan would have to give up his title or Thaxton would have to withdraw as mandatory challenger. Khan was withdrawn from the purse bids but due to having Frank Warren as his manager miraculously managed to avoid Thaxton and keep the Commonwealth belt.

i said that i rate him above gomez. if it was a fact i'd of said "thaxton is better than gomez. fact".

jono didn't look too tired when stopping dave stewart in the 12th round less than a year ago (a poor performance but proof that he can be dangerous for the entire fight).

i still think khan would win, but taking this fight and winning impressively would mean more than beating prescott. so why doesn't he?
