According to a report in England, WBA junior welterweight champion Amir Khan has made a final decision to leave promoter Frank Warren and plans to jump-start his career in America. The Daily Star reports that Khan is planning to hook up with Golden Boy Promotions, who worked in the past with other UK fighters like Joe Calzaghe and currently work with Ricky Hatton. If everything goes as planned, Khan could make his U.S. debut against Paulie Malignaggi on May 1 in Madison Square Garden. The date may not be likely since Golden Boy has the MGM Grand reserved for the same date for the return of Juan Manuel Marquez.

In order to fight Malignaggi or any other opponent for that matter, Khan will have to dump his title. The WBA ordered him to face interim-champion Marcos Maidana next or give up the belt. Khan's trainer Freddie Roach has never been happy with a Maidana fight and wanted his fighter to avoid it.

Ever since he mentioned he was waiting until the summer to return it made me think he's holding out for Khan to beat a decent name over in the states this spring then to take him on in a stadium sell out in myabe London/Manchester

  5. Malignaggi - Khan is a good fight.

Roach is wise with picking fights, but a champ shouldn't duck fighters you know. The modern day champ is a sad thing to see from that perspective.

He should be facing maidana at the very least. You couldn't call his last fight a defence. If he ducks maidana, he will still have a question mark over him, and leave himself open to people being able to say he still has fought no one of note, who could potentailly be in their prime.
Khan must fight him, and forget mallinaggi for the time being

Ah, if the Daily Star says it, it must be true:deal. I'll wait until confirmation from the man himself before I get all up-in-arms that he's vacating and avoiding a Maidana fight. All signs currently point to him facing Maidana and I see no reason for that to change. I really hope that fight gets made and, personally, I think that Malignaggi is not the best fight for Khan at the moment or for a few fights.

    EDIT: http://www.fighthype.com/pages/content6732.html?PHPSESSID=2aeaef4564d747b4511b7f5518ce8154

Another link. Hmm:think. If he does fight the Magic Man first and then Maidana, I don't think anybody could complain.

Without Warren Khan and Hatton can fight tune ups before making a HUGE fight between themselves in the UK.

Im gonna state a few facts here guys

1.NO ONE could have got Amir a world title shot exactly 12 months to day that he was flattened at the MEN by Presscott

2.Frank wanted him to fight Maidana..FACT!! I was on radio with him on Friday night. he spoke about the situation.

3.Roach is a coach and now is taking over ever aspect, promoting, managing etc etc!!

4.He'll come back to Frank but for me this is a bad stunt and like I said in no.1 no one could have done for him what Frank done after the Presscott incident!! If it happens again let's see how long Roach and Golden boy stay around to pick up the peices!!

5.He'll vacate and what message does this send out to his fans??

Vacating to fight a lighter puncher is a ***** move, and nobody can say otherwise.
