You silly egg-head. I've kept in touch with Team Khan for more than 2 years now. The reason I haven't been bragging so much is because I hate too, but I gave out the recommendation to them, and they looked through the options.
Posted earlier. Can you imagine Khan concentrating with this guy?.. Hunter:Amiiirr (long drawn out words) we need to work on.... your pocket game now. I want you to be like Dre when it comes to it. Khan: Sorry bro, Was just sending a tweet. You wanna see how fast i can go on the pads?.
I'm skeptic about this. Khan's team are in for a rude awakening if their thought process is: "Amir's defence and inside game is bad" :sad2 "Contrary to Ward's, which is excellent" :think "That's it! Ward's trainer + Amir Khan = Great inside fighting!" :bananamaniac Ward's type of defence, as good as it is, still involves high risk. He gets in close and likes to rough the other guy up. And he's comfortable doing that because he has the upper body movement and sense to spot/evade danger. <--- Khan ain't bult for that. He's too stiff, reaction times are slow, and he's not physically strong/durable enough. Steward would have been the safer bet.
Nah, Steward is really not a good choice. Khan would be even less of a priority in with him. I doubt Hunter would try to make him into something he can't be. He'll see his weaknesses and adapt his style accordingly, I reckon. The good thing about Hunter is, he's like a manager also. He chooses the opponents wisely and doesn't let them gain advantages. He won't blindly take Khan into something he might not feel he's ready for. I'm sure he'll attempt to build him from ground up.
Ahh yes. Forgot about the priority thing. Khan doesn't mind playing second fiddle, but it's the constant travelling and the prospect of training on his own while the head trainer is away tending to other things, that he has an issue with. With Steward, that would be hard to avoid. But as a trainer, I think he would have been a good match. He would have tended Khan's strengths and weaknesses just like he did Lennox and Wlad. And I hope you're right about Hunter. I'm just unsure because I don't know of any other fighter he's schooled beside Ward. I'm more comfortable in the selection of Steward, but more excited/intrigued in the selection of Hunter, I guess. I hope it happens just to see what Khan can muster. It will also do him good taking inspiration from an intelligent operator like Ward, as opposed to a all-action, high-risking Pacquiao.
Khan doesn't have the physical advantage, nor the power to emulate a Wlad style. It would just make for a cautious Khan leading off the jab, not trying to do much at all and in the process getting caught when he get's 'bored'. Lewis and Wlad possessed huge physical advantages over the other heavyweights, though. That's why their style was successful. With Khan, that's just not the case. He doesn't possess that long reach, height advantage, huge power advantage over his opponents like they do. Well I don't quite think it's based on what he's done with Ward alone. He's a smart person and he knows what he's talking about when it comes to it. I like his corner work, too, especially in the Witherspoon-Mitchell fight. I'm not saying I'm the sole reason or anything like that, lol. There were others who said he'd be good too. I just feel I influenced it.
I agree with a lot you said here....i see the comparison to Wlad being made a lot, but as you quite rightly said, they are very different. How would you like to see Khan fight now?
I have a simple question to ppl on this thread, why is khan still being taken seriously as a fighter?
Virgil Hill is a great trainer but in my opinion Khan's goose is already cooked so I don't believe any trainer will make much differenc nw.
