I didnt think Hinter really worked well with anybody outside Ward tbh. The best Khan was under Roach imo.
And let's be real, a goldfish could have trained Ward to win a world title. If anything, Ward succeeded in SPITE of Hunter, not because of him.
I think Khan was making big improvements under Hunter especially with the wide points win over Alexander. Hunter was really trying to get him to think more. He never wanted Khan to take the Canelo fight. Khan was doing well before he switched off. I think Khan never recovered from the Canelo KO and that was the last of vintage Khan
Leopard can't change it's spots Khan learnt some good stuff under Hunter. Positioning, got rid of his amateurish bouncing, Was better on the inside. All went out the window when hurt though. Khan's default state when hurt is ring circling and high turtle guard. No point trying to change what made Khan great. Lightning quick, could close the distance extremely quickly, so fast his opponent barely knew what had happened then reset and continue. He clearly had some decent pop also.
I thought he was best under Roach by far, much more offensive and aggressive and then suited him. By the way, who is hunter training now? It's like he disappeared from earth
Initially under Hunter he showed improvements. In fights like the Alexander fight he was countering more something he almost never does. His attacks were less predictable throwing more single shots like the right hand lead unlike the flurries he likes to throw often starting with a predictable jab. He also showed some ability to manipulate opponents on the inside, moving their guard to create openings on the inside instead of just shelling up behind a high guard he would tie opponents up more to prevent being countered. When Khan first started working with Hunter, Khan basically moved to the US, completely dedicated himself to boxing and trained even between fights, something he never used to do and we saw improvements. But it didn't last, Khan again reverted back to only training for fights during camps and moved back to the UK and he regressed. I wouldn't regard him as a Hunter fighter now, Hunter stayed for the paychecks but it's clear Khan simply does what he likes and ignores Hunter's attempts at teaching him. I don't think Hunter is a terrible trainer but his style is very technical and requires a level of ring IQ that Khan lacks and Hunter lacks the ability to steer Khan into fighting how he wants consistently. His style of teaching clearly wasn't able to make a lasting difference. Roach I think in this regard did better than Hunter. While I think Hunter's style of boxing would of had greater benefit to Khan than Roach's, fact is Roach was able to make Khan for the most part do what he had instructed. A trainers ability to teach what he knows is as important as the knowledge. Arrogant fighters like Khan probably don't respond well to basic instructions they need to be guided in less obvious ways which Roach was able to do unlike Hunter.
Khan has always been too easy to hit under Roach he ate far too many shots, he always stepped in with his punches bringing his head nearer his opponents fists, he never changed from his stand up amateur style.
Defensively yes he never really changed much which is why I think Hunter's style of spoiling counters, pot shotting, movement would of suited Khan better. But having said that Roach did make some improvements in Khan though mainly offensively. Like he taught Khan the same cross over step rush move that Pac uses, where he squares up mid rush to turn a jab into a cross, which has always been effective for Pac to back opponents up. Roach's offensive style was never really a good mesh for Khan but at least a dumbass like Khan was able to absorb something from Roach and have it stick unlike Hunter's style which required far too much commitment and ring IQ for Khan to truly grasp and gain benefit from.
