Cast your votes gentlemen. Hey, its only one fight, but following the non-too-convincing peformance against Gomez how do you see Khan's career going from this point.
he can win a world title when the time is right. but there is no mug holding a world title at lightweight at the moment
European level/fringe World title depending on who he gets matched with. Khan got the skills and heart but he is chinny and that will be his downfall. Im still a fan an maybe if he switched his style and covered his chin more and sat down on his punches(dropped Gomez with body shot) he can be a World Titleist. Entertaining fighter and will support him regardless but the fight showed me a clearer picture of what his level is.
Khan is already on a dangerous downward spiral IMO. Hes went from the worlds no1 prospect(according to HBO) to a man who in Barry McGuigans opinion "isnt ready for a world title shot" The Gomez fight was a disaster for him. The Limond fight was supposedly a 'blip' an old Gomez wasnt supposed to cement opinion that Khan is nothing more than fast punches. However, take Khans superfast handspeed away & whats left? You tell me. & lets be honest here, Khans superfast hands wont last to long, most boxers lose the superspeed by their mid 20's. The future is bleak for Khan IMO. I thought the kid had it all, but when an old Gomez nearly KO's you, its not good. Not good at all. I think Khan will retire in the next two years, howzat for a sweeping statement? Thats how bad I thought he was against an old Gomez who by his own admission didnt perform to the best of his capabilities.
He has just got as weak chin plain and simple its a shame as he has speed and power, but no chin. Couple that with a leaky defence and he does look doomed, still i thoroughly enjoyed last nights fight :good
I think the problem with Khan is that he is a bit of an Audley Harrison (tho not quite as bad) Has some great skills, uses them against nobodies, calls himself world champion material. If he chilled out on the big talk and started fighting some real lightweight opponents I would get behind him. At this point, I can see him "doing a Naz" ie someone doing him and it shattering his ego so badly he has to retire. The kid needs some decent handlers around him.
I agree with Dunky, Khan has awesome handspeed but without it he would probably be 7-5 or have a record something like that. Having said that it was a good fight and at the time of the stoppage i think Khan was getting on top, although i think the stoppage was a tad quick. If you watch the ref he was looking to jump in at the beginning of round 5.
I normally agree with about half of any one of Dunky's posts, but this time I agree fully. I honestly feel he should push for a major title shot as soon as possible, before he gets ruined.
The sooner Khan picks a quality trainer the better. He should forget about a title fight anytime this year because he simply is not ready. He is paying for his choice of Oliver Harrison as his initial trainer who quite frankly has taught him defence by simply telling him to keep his hands up. He doesn't even know how to clinch properly which is why he was dropped last night. Khan needs to realise that he will need another year under a good trainer to teach him how to defend himself properly. He has the offensive abilities already but he is only half the fighter he could be at this moment in time. Khan is a good domestic level fighter at the moment who could also do well at the european level but if he was in with a world class opponent last night he would be no longer undefeated.
Jeez I could pass wind and KO that tit. Khan is in a no win situation, sooner or later some guy is going to embarrass him.
he'll be a WBU turkey, at best might win the WBO belt from an accidental title holder and paper champ, Ricky Hatton style.
I'm just wondering, where have the Khan fans gone all of a sudden? They're normally quite vocal after the "Big Fight".
