Khan vote

I think he will spice things up in the division a bit.

He has an exciting style and has been stealing the show on the undercard of British heavyweight title fights for some time.

A fighter who has the offensive arsenal to be a threat to anybody but lacks durability and can get knocked out will always make for exciting fights and develop a solid fan base.

However far he goes he is going to make things interesting.

 

Hatton will be gone by then. Kotelnik, while solid, struggled to break down a tiny light welter in Rees. Khan's handspeed would give him all sorts of problems as well as his size & strength. Bradley had a good night but we dont quite know how good he is yet. Paulie hasn't looked good in ages & for someone who relies on his reflexes to avoid punches he gets hit far too often. Khan's handspeed would, again, cause him lots of problems.

 

He didn't really struggle to break down Rees as such, it was a consistent schooling, and Rees was hurt quite a few times. But we've no reason to believe Rees's chin is bad, if anything the evidence suggests its better than Khan's. The speed may win him the majority of rounds, but what happens when Kotelnik times him with a perfect right hand counter which is likely? Khan hits the canvas. Winnable, but its no more than 50/50 for Khan

Bradley has got to be pretty good. Witter has never been hurt like that so he's got power, but at the same time he had the chin to take Witter's best so how is Khan going to hurt him? He's athletic, quick, at least as big as Khan, decent skills and pop. Good all-round fighter, Khan will get beat mark my words

Torres will starch him. No analysis needed, one shot Khan is dead. This is the guy that has hurt Cotto the most, weight drained or not, its not hard to see him starching a glass jawed lightweight

Then there is another prospect, Ortiz who is very exciting to throw into the occasion. He ain't going anywhere at LWW. I give him more chance of beating Campbell.

I still think the move up in weight may eliminate his chin problems ala DLH.

 

But the thing is, we keep harping back to Malignaggi's "brave" performance against Cotto. It sums him up, the most impressive thing he ever did was get his face rearranged by Cotto in a losing cause

Since then he's been VERY unimpressive. I thought he clearly lost to Ngoudjo, whilst getting badly shaken, which makes me think his chin is ruined. Distinctly underwhelming against N'dou the second time, hurt again, and fought the wrong type of fight making it close

He isn't beating Hatton, he gets too involved. He fought like that against N'dou and nearly lost, Hatton will make him pay.

 

His chin is awful, but if he had great defence, he could work around his punch resistance. His defence is also poor but could probably get away with that if he used his footwork and reach more. However, he gets himself into brawls.

Basically, he's ****ed. It all comes down to his chin and his reluctance to work around that. It's possible to get around such an abysmal chin but Khan either can't or won't.

I think the most likely option is theystall until there is a **** poor paper champ and take his belt. Then a few yars of Bobby Gunn's before he steps up ad gets wasted.

Although, I don't even think Khan won't even try for a proper world title at lightweight. It's far too packed for him to get a look in. Instead he will go up to 140lbs and get smashed by those guys too.

 

Abysmal chin? Last night was a flash knockdown. I think you're being a bit dramatic.

Hmmm. It's like our roles are reversed I think. I thought he might do something, but now I've near ruled him out

 

I've been overly harsh because of his personality & Warren. I just think that handspeed & natural ability will take him somewhere. I thought he performed okay last night & there were positives to be had.

 

What changed your mind between the first bell sounding and the ref waving it off?

What impressed you so much, considering the opponent?

Didn't some of his defensive flaws, and the fact he's been floored AGAIN worry you enough to doubt his chances?

 

Nothing. I wanted to see him lose for the wrong reasons.

His handspeed, some of his combos & the way he came back from being hurt.

Of course, I'm not saying I think he's a future p4p king, I do think he can win a major belt & make a good few defences though.

 

A bit dramatic maybe, but there is a definite problem with Khan's punch resistance. The shot that Gomez put him down with was hardly a belter, yet his legs just went. When he got back up, he was still a bit wobbly.
If that was a full blooded shot from a hard hitting lightweight, (like Katsidis), what do we think would be the outcome? It's not even as if he's hard to hit.
Unless Amir Khan can find a way to become a super elusive master of defence, he's going to have a tough time getting past good European level.

 

I thought it was a belter. hit hit him bang on the chin, and he got almost full force behind it. Khan was also a bit off balance, he got straight back up and wasnt hurt at all really, i think that shows alot.
