I won't be watching the fight. Will be interested to see which US network shows the fight as I read Showtime has passed on it. I enjoy watching Khan fight...but it's clear to see that he is not interested in fighting anyone that poses a threat until he gets Floyds/Manny. It doesn't make any sense turning down Brook for Algieri - then have the audacity to say Algieri "just fell short" against Pacquiao. He didn't Amir - he got outclassed and destroyed. Also Amir - look at the trends here - Algieri fought Pacquiao after he beat Ruslan where he was a huge underdog. Maidana was a big underdog vs Broner (rightly or wrongly) - so fight Brook - win that fight - then you will get the big fight. As if Floyd Pac is competitive in any way shape or form then a rematch will definitely take place later on in the year...
Khan's camp is pretty open about the rationale for not fighting Brook now. They thinks that the Brook fight will always be there so Khan chases the big money fights (Pac/PFM) while they are still there. As both are coming to the end of their careers, he needs to do that sooner rather than later. Algieri is a stay busy/treading water fight, nothing more. In the meantime the demand for the Brook / Khan clash will only grow in the Uk, which will only make it bigger when it does happen. That's it really. If you think about it, it kinda makes pretty good business sense. It's a wind up for the fans, sure, but that's the rationale for you. -
I reckon his advisor Al Haymon thinks differently. It's a low risk, keep busy fight that Khan is almost guaranteed to win. Just the ticket. Keeps him in frame.
to me it won't, khan can use the fact he's a draw of sorts (headline at MGM etc) to keep him in the frame. Now this fight with algeiri is struggling at present to find a network to take it, and no doubt will do poor TV numbers he's less of an attraction to fight.
