Hi guys salaam, I just want to say Amir Khan will probably loose against Maidana. One reason (and probably the only one ) is that Amir Khan cannot handle big punchers. Now i have watched Amir's last fights, and want to talk about the Kotelnik and Malli the magic girl fights (i do like paulie though, skilled fighter just girly hands). Now Amir beat Kotelnik just by punching and moving in and out. He did get caught quite alot and looked sloopy taking those punches or trying to avoid them - this worries me because Maidana will surely connect (with a big one) and Amir will probably drop. Amir needs to improve his holding and fighting in the inside inorder to survive with Maidana. That is the problem with the tactics he had used with Kotelnik he just got so tired, his defense was leaking or trying to avoid the punches made him looked really sloppy. He beat Paulie, but i had the fight quite close until the 7th round. Again someone like Maidanna will surely come forward and pressure him and lets face it, Amir Khan does not look or know how to fight in the inside, which is where Maidana will wear him down. Sometimes when i look back at his last 3 fights, i think he is one dimensional, he wastes too much energy when doing those fast quick punches, which probably have no strength in them or power. The other thing is that Amir's only experience with a big puncher was with Prescott and we all know how that turned out. I see this as a problem because he has been cushioned to fight weak punchers. Amir Khan is also really scared that he might get knocked down like he did by Prescott and this will make him emotionally scared. What are your thoughts? Lets keep this as a clean thread not bashing him too much
Welcome to the forum. Many of your points state the obvious, and I do agree, I think Khan will lose. One thing though, you mentioned his faults in the Kotelnik fight, but do bear in mind that this only his 3rd fight with Roach and a mere 9 months after being raped by Prescott. It was also his first world-class fight at a higher weight, against a guy who we all know now to be a very good fighter. So in context his complete shut-out of Kotelnik is pretty imoressive. The Salita fight didn't say much, but the Malignaggi one did show us he's matured and can box beautifully. The only question he's not answered, is how he deals with a pressure fighter with extraordinary power. I think he'll fail. But we'll see.
I think Khan has been improving enough and developing good skills as an outfighter. Maidana's close-range pressure could pose a problem, but he'll have to get there first without eating a flurry every time. Khan does have leaks, and we can't know if he's fixed them for this fight particularly yet or if his resistance has improved any. I saw him wobble against kotelnik in round 11 though. He did tire and his head/upper body movement isn't too good after he attacks. I favor Khan to win but it's hard to imagine Maidana won't land one decent shot the whole night. Hopefully Maidana will bring his A game and pressure without being stupid.
I can't wait for this fight i think we will be in for a treat. I wonder if Khan is banging any of those phillie girls
Im a khan fan i like his style of fighting but i have to say i will be on the edge of my seat on this one! We finally get to see IF khan can take a punch. I know alot of people say he was cold when he took prescotts shot but if that happens in round one with maidana he is ****ed!!!! i dont think it will roach is not that stupid and one thing you can say about khan he follows roach's orders perfectly! right my prediction.......... Khan win ud
1st of all i think the fight wont happen because amir will get a injury during training camp. If it does happen i have Maidana by Tko 8th round. Yes Khan can outbox him but if you see his fight especially salita fight. When salita was hurt khan had his hand down and his chin wide in the air. Roach was pissed about this too and if he does this with marcos it gonna be lights out. 1ST PREDICITON fight wont happen. 2nd Marco by ko 8th rnd
Personally think that Khan will get his tactics right, and keep it to the outside, and that he has the fitness to do so. There is the chance that he may get drawn into something and if he does it will be good night Vienna to him. This really will be his matcho side dominating his brain and his tactics, and it happened against the Colombian road sweeper. But although Khan should get the UD12, I would not bet on this fight, because Khan may not follow his tactics and get drawn into something.
as long as khan protects that chin. probably study wladimir klitschko a lil bit. then khan should be able to win a UD vs maidana
Hey IDIOT Roach was pissed he said to numoerous reporter that Khan still make big mistake like having hand his hand down when salita was hurt. Injury based on what ? If Roach realise that khan is having problem eg sparring they will pull him out so he doesn't lose his belt and khan career be over
he will just keep jabbing and running, mm's team needs to work on pressure without getting constantly jabbed off very very difficult against khans speed.
But Maidana WILL hit him flush at some point in the fight, Khan cannot hold him off forever. How Khan reacts to being hit, we don't know. But we will find out......
There are really some salient comparisons that can be made between khan and klitchsko, I agree. For years W.K. fought like he has protecting that egg shell - as in the first Peters fight where about every landed punch resulted in a KD but he still clearly won the fight by winning every other second. Somehow W.K. overcame that deficit and is able to take shots now. Hopefully Khan can make the same adjustments BUT he is never never never going to have a solid chin and everyone with power is going to be a risk to him, as many less talented guys are dangerous to Zab Judah who while not necessarily ridiculously chinny easily loses his focus and falls apart. I fear Khan may get sparked at any time in this fight even after a commanding lead if he is unlucky.
Maidana has the power to stop any Lightwelter especially one with a chin like Khans. But Roach has made Khan much more discaplined defensivly and i think the move up in weight has helped his chin, only a little but enough to be able to glancing blows, Maidana will have to land clean to KO him and its getting harder to land clean. And if he doesnt land clean hes guna get outboxed big time. Personally i think Khan will win this, his speedy combos will cause Maidana no end of trouble, maybe not rock him but it will keep him so busy trying to defend them he wont throw his own shots with any accuracy. But then it only takes 1 big shot. Im lookin forward to it.
