Team Maidana statement....

After several weeks of tough negotiations, WBA interim super lightweight champion Marcos Maidana from Argentina has reached an agreement with Golden Boy Promotions to fight WBA super lightweight champion Amir Khan on December 11th in Las Vegas. The agreement leads to the cancellation of a Purse Bid called by the Wold Boxing Association, that was scheduled September 21st in Panama.

“I’m very happy that we have an agreement to fight Khan, at last,” said Maidana. “I had to wait a long time because Khan and his team did not want the fight and then they became too demanding. But now it’s done and I am glad to have the fight I wanted!”

“As I said before, I don’t like to be called an ‘interim’ champion. I want it all. That’s why I wanted to face Khan so I can be called the only champion of the WBA,” he added.

“I always want to face the best fighters out there. That’s why I was so upset when some people said that I had faked an injury not to face Timothy Bradley, back in July. Now everybody knows that the injury was made up by my former manager when I told him that I wouldn’t fight after he offered little money. In fact, before I beat Demarcus Corley (August 28th), I had publicly stated that now that the conditions had changed dramatically for me I wanted to face Bradley before the end of this year. However, after Bradley’s big mouth promoter Gary Shaw talked garbage about me for a month, he preferred to face Devon Alexander, instead. I was foreseeing that the same situation would happen with Khan. But luckily he (Khan) accepted the fight. So I’m very confident to beat him next December 11th,” Maidana explained.

“The fact that the bout will be in Las Vegas is even more excitement for me. I’ve already fought there earlier this year when I knocked out Victor Cayo (March 27th), but this time it will be a much bigger card, which makes me very proud,” commented Maidana.

“Now the words are off and I have to train harder than ever. We’ll have our training camp in Las Vegas for nine weeks, where I’ll be along with my trainers Miguel Díaz and Cristian Rodríguez. Khan is a good fighter and the fight will be tough. That’s normal when you face the best. I only can say that I’m eager to take the whole world title. And I will,” Maidana concluded

Wonder if people are still going to call Khan a 'ducker' now, he's manned up, stepped out of his comfort zone and is taking on someone who could prove to be very dangerous. Deserves a little credit for this at least. So long as he stays sensible, it should be an easy win for him.
