Exactly, his fans brag about him being a World Champion but he needs another few fights to build up to facing a 10 ten challenger.
Exactly! This doesn't have the sense of a megafight like Lopez/Gamboa that needs building. Now is the time as in the future a) Maidana could be ruthlessly exposed or b) Khan could get KTFO again. They should fight now.
Well look at it like this, Khan himself called Kotelnik the worst Champion of all time, not the worst in this era but of all time, now that is a damning statement of the guy you won the WC from.
Maidana is no joke...Khan would really have to "box and move" to stay in the fight..he wont be able to trade as he is not strong enough and his chin is suspect
lol first Juanma Gamboa and now Khan Maidana..... LOL It are these kind of fights that make the fighters big names and make them participate in big fights.... If you ain´t gonna fight nobody, you ain´t gonna be in no big fights
I could be wrong but this sounds like a way for Khan to avoid Maidana. I just can't see Maidana being any kind of superstar attraction to build up to. I couldn't blame Khan if he fought Marquez or even Hatton instead of Maidana but to say they are going to build this fight into some superfight is nonsense.
They are just hoping Maidana loses to a rugged boxer with no power (ie Kotelnik) so that Kahn can "unify" with less of a threat. Styles make fights and Maidana is all wrong for Kahn. They let Prescott fight other fights and get beaten, so now a rematch is unneccesary. This is all pretty obvious. This should not be a fight you build up to. This should be the build up fight to unifying with other beltholders.
Personally i would like to see this fight......i have heard maybe JMM or Hatton, both those will be hard. I think JMM is a much harder fight than Maidana, so better off fighting Maidana.
It just seems as though the timing is all off for this fight. It makes more sense in the distant future.
When I first read the quotes I thought Schaeffer was joking and trying to make fun of Arum's quotes around Gamboa-Lopez. I agree with most posters. I don't see why Roach and Schaeffer are making Maidana out to be such a world beater and trying to avoid him. The fight they should be trying to build up is Kahn-Bradley. Now that is someone to avoid until the dollars are right. Everything else is just a smokescreen.
