I would say the usual procedure for fighters coming off a loss is, as you said, to face an opponent they are very likely to beat. But I think Khan is a unique case, and perhaps he would be better fighting a top class opponent to give him that mental sharpness and focus he's lacked in the past and been punished for.
That's a bit rich coming from a spastic like you Earl, if you don't like my posts, put me on ignore, its quite simple.
But Brook's career isn't currently shaking on the point of a needle, and he isnt coming off two back-to-back losses (one of them a vicious stoppage). He's on his way up and has been at world-title contender level for what seems like forever. Khan's situation doesn't even compare. And I agree, I can't see why anyone would have a problem with him taking one or two easy fights to build confidence and find his feet under a new trainer. Especially when that's exactly what a fair few here were advocating when he lost. Some were even telling him to back to domestic level opposition and stay there until he fixes up.
I could care less who he fights next, especially after his last fight. However he can't go round rubbishing other fights on the basis of them not being on his level and then announce this shower of shite.
I just wanna make it clear, I don't especially begrudge a fighter taking a less-favoured opponent after a KO loss, it's the way I know Khant is gonna big this guy up and make it sound like he's going to war with an absolute beast - I mean, reading that interview, he's already started. That is why I don't have any time for the guy, and that is why I can't see myself ever supporting him.
Khan doesn't have to say it's a **** fight, but making out it something it isn't is not the way to go, something like "I want to get back to the top and this is a good first step" would be fine
There is a sizable minority that will hate on Khan regardless, he should - as I presume he does - simply ignore them. Good choice of opponent, not a bum but not that risky either.
Fair enough. But I have to ask: knowing exactly what Khan is like and the silly things he says, why do we all continue to be outraged/shocked when he comes out with something that's not entirely true? Yes, it's a crap opponent, but he can't exactly admit that in the build-up, can he. He has to try and sell him somehow, and with him obviously not being the sharpest tool in the shed, he's gonna' struggle recognizing the fine line between sensibly hyping his opponent, and just talking plain crap. It's not that different to Eddie Hearn saying "We're putting Brook in with the best opponents", only to continue safely matching him up with non-threatening opponents. They all do it.
The opponent is a sensible choice for some and a **** one for the people that want to see him banjo'd. I am of the latter.
