Khan vs Prescott - surely the best stay busy fight available?

Khan has promised his next fight will be back home in England. this basically translates to it being a stay busy fight whilst we await the winner of Bradley/Alexander.

There were suggestions it would be Judah, but he has landed himself a well deserved (IMO) title shot against Mabuza/Ortiz either matchup looks to be exciting.

back to the topic at hand though, it doesn't leave Khan with many viable alternates. My reckoning says it would either be Maidana, Matthyse, Peterson, Prescott, Brook, Murray or Kotelnik.

He has already beaten two of those names convincingly enough there is no reason to rematch. I don't think the call is there for a Brook fight, maybe in a year when Khan moves up, but not just yet. Matthyse and Peterson are both coming off close decisions that went against them, and are top contenders, but they are relatively unknown over here. Murray, that is a fight that SHOULD have happened a couple of years ago, especially after he beat Thaxton, and it would be a fight I would like to see before Khan gets too big.

So whilst there are some potentially interesting matchups, I think Prescott eclipses them by far. He knocked Khan out in under a minute and is coming off a victory so it would be credible. The fight would be big over here because everyone I know saw him knock out Khan. Prescott has a good chin and an even better punch, Khan began to fade vs Maidana and I'm sure Prescott would be thinking he has a punchers chance from start to end. More than that, it would represent closure for Khan, avenging his sole defeat to date. Plus fighting two big punchers in a row, considering one of them has knocked him out in the past, would alleviate almost all criticism about his heart and opponent selection.

It makes the most sense to me as an english boxing fan.

What do you guys think? should Khan rematch Prescott in his next fight? Or are there better alternates?

 

I see it going

Prescott in April
Bradley in the summer

and then either:

Welterweight bout to close the year (if clear victories inlast two fights)
or
Rematch with Bradley (if close fight)
or
Judah Unification (if he defends vs a live opponent and the call is there)

 

ah, I did not know that. well a unification with Judah would be a good fight to have round about the same time as the rematch.

I hope Judah wins in dominant fashion so there is an adequate call for the fight. he has already beaten santa cruz and mathysse, a win over either mabuz or ortiz would strengthen his credentials.

Judah is one of the few people I think that have a real chance of beating Khan.

I only see Khan losing to judah, ortiz, bradley or JMM at 140.

 

i hope it isn't peterson. the guy is a good contender, but it would be a backward step for Khan.
