Khan vs Prescott - surely the best stay busy fight available?

Peterson leaves me seriously uninspired. I would much rather see Khan-McCloskey or Khan-Prescott both would be heavily favoured towards Khan but at least they have areas of interest. Prescott may not deserve a shot and may be a poor fighter but there is history there and it would certainly be interesting to see Khan right that wrong.

I hate the way that certain fighters are continuously recycled without proving when the consistently get beat decisively and do nothing to prove that they deserve these fights (Judah, Mallignagi, Mayorga etc), I liked Ortiz-Peterson but until Peterson goes on a run of decent form I have no interest in seeing him against one of the elite 140lb fighters .

 

All those 3 guys (Zab, Paulie, Mayorga) know how to sell themselves, that always helps!!

 

True and I respect the business side of Boxing but I wish that they would come into these fights on a back of a few wins against decent fringe ranked opponents.

And on top of that Peterson won't sell he is a quiet individual who is coming off two losses in his last three fights and those two losses where in fights that he stepped up.

 

I'd rather see him fight a top 10 140lb'r than prescott

 

Other than shutting up a few haters on boxing forums, there is no reason for Khan to fight Prescott again.

Sorry, I dont have names for him to fight instead.

 

Why not give Limond a rematch too whilst we are at it

 

well there arent exactly a whole lot of fights out there

Bradley/Alexander - fighting in Jan then likely doing an immediate rematch
Judah - fighting Mabuza
Ortiz - Goldenboy want to build that fight and wont let it happen yet

there is no meaningful fight to be made so may as well try to endear him to the public and drum up some interest and support. much rather him stay active too than just sit around and wait for someone to become available.

Peterson fight = doesnt pose a threat and no one cares
Prescott = might be underserving but the guy is obviously a genuine threat and the public will pay attention.

Prescott scored a fluke KO that he wouldn't repeat in a hundred goes against a focused and properly trained Khan - as it was Khan fought like a spaz and charged across the ring.

Limond on the other hand decked Khan for longer than a ten count..... I can picture it now, 6, 6 and a bit, erm.... 7, look at Frank Warren, Khan takes a knee then gets up, erm..... it was as bad as the first Bute vs Andrade farce.

Sure Khan showed plenty of stones to come back and score a stoppage, but his claim to a rematch is just as compelling as Prescott's.

Prescott just hit the jackpot once and has struggled against crap opponents since. He needs to earn his shot rather than getting one just because he got lucky two years ago.

It's all very well pointing out that Lewis subsequently avenged his losses, but McCall was still live, having only lost the title a couple of fights previous to Bruno and had had a few wins in between, and Rahman was immediate.

Huge difference.

doesnt matter what his record is or how far Khan has come. bottom line is that Prescott has the right style to trouble him.

of all the realistic options for a febuary fight, Prescott has the best chance of beating Khan. Surely the most competitive fight is the best option? Plus it has the marketing angle to help build Khan up in the British publics eyes.....not a tough choice to make.

 

Of course Khan wasn't on the canvas for ten seconds, but he wasn't ready to continue after ten either.

Obviously it's the referee's count that matters, but it was still BS.....

Prescott won't have any mental edge after losing twice, once to an IBF champion that probably got his shot because the real champion refused to fight a pointless mando, and another against Euro class Kevin Mitchell.

Khan hadn't been hurt in any of his previous fights since then, before running into Maidana, who can hurt anyone in that class, and punches way harder than Prescott.

Knowing that he can both outbox Prescott and be able to take his shots gives him the mental edge.

Prescott can't be that big a banger when he barely put a dent in Mitchell, who was soon knocked the **** out by Katsidis inside three rounds.

Of the three, Peterson is the better fight. Sure, he doesn't have a ''name'', but has taken Bradley 12 and was competitive, and also has a draw with Ortiz.

Brook hasn't beaten anyone, and Prescott is irrelevant in the division at this time.

 

The time to rematch Prescott has passed and passed last July, when his proposed stay busy fight was canned.

To follow up a career defining win with a match against Prescott would be a disgrace. Revenge or not you'd be ripping Wlad all over if he decided to fight Corrie Sanders next.

Khan is beyond Prescott now. Since 2008 Prescott has lost twice, once to Mitchell who's proven himself a domestic, potentially European level fighter at best. Khan has won a world title and beaten better boxers and better punchers than Prescott.
