He got screwed the first time around, in numerous ways. Hometown ref, hometown judges, fighting a doped up PEDerson. For those saying he should've targeted the rematch sooner? He did. It was set. Lamont failed a PED/IQ test and it got called off. Wilder was justified walking away from Povetkin, Lebedev wasn't wrong for walking away from the Jones rematch, and it sure wasn't Khan's fault about Peterson. Consistency, people. Try it once in awhile. You don't have to like Khan one bit, but the dude got done wrong vs Peterson and it's ridiculous to put it on him.
How long ago was it that Peterson failed, and has since has his licence back to fight legitimately? This isn't about revenge, it's a convenient alibi for him to avoid facing Brook. He could have rematched Peterson years ago. He even had the chance to enforce his mandatory position and avenge his loss to Garcia. Instead he chased a fight that he knew he'd lose just to pocket some money and avoid facing any top 10 welterweights that were punchers who could ruin his reputation. The man is a disgrace to the sport, and you sir are an apologist for this utter disgrace of a human being.
Hope the match gets made. Khan gets bullied to another defeat in my book. He shouldn't have lost the first fight but his simpleton ring IQ saw to it that he did - he chose to go toe-to-toe when he could have out-boxed Peterson. But Khan has slipped enough now for me to feel he loses again, whatever his approach might be.
How you can possibly say he wants to avenge them? He never wanted to go anywhere near Prescott after getting destroyed by him. The Peterson fight has been there for years and yet it's only now he's looking to get the fight made now that looks like the easiest fight for him in a sea of difficult fights. He could have done more to enforce his mando status on Garcia but chose not to instead opting to sell a highlight reel KO to Canelo. Stylistic threats? Which guy has he faced that can bang at 147? He's purposefully matched himself against non-punchers so again not sure what you're on about there. There's a long list of guys he could of fought at welterweight that he's managed to swerve whilst somehow maintaining credibility with his gullible fans. And no, an interim title is not as hard to win nor anywhere near as prestigious, you're embarrassing yourself each and every time you say that. Peterson is not the real WBA champ, he's at best the org's number 1 contender with a silly belt attached. Thurman is the WBA champ.
But he's not rematched any of them in the near-decade since his first loss. You think he would have managed to have at least got Prescott back in the ring if he was so keen to avenge losses. I think the key indicator which determines the difference between a boxer saying he wants to avenge losses and actually avenging them is the number of times he fights opponents who previously beat him. He's 0 for 3 on that score currently...
This is hilarious. He isn't not interested in a fight with Brook he's actually afraid of a fight with him and I don't use that word lightly. He's talked so much **** about Kell over the years that he knows if he steps in that ring and gets his ass handed to him - which in all likeliness is what would happen - then he's going to have to have a double helping of humble pie along with thoughts of retirement. He simply can't handle the thought of losing to Brook at this point.
I wouldn't mind seeing Khan/Peterson winner fight the Thurman/GarcĂa winner, and the winner of that face Brook/Spence winner. I wish Boxing was tournament-centric sometimes.
What year was the Peterson rematch scheduled, do you know? I seem to recall it was a good few years ago now...
I think Peterson wins the rematch again. He'd figured out Khan by round 6 and all he has to do is start the rematch like it's round 13.
Why does he mention cotto? Khan said he won't step up again from 147lbs and Cotto is no WW. Again it's just Khan the contradiction again.
