Khan wants to leave Warren

Could see that one coming, he should be fine. Warren would just have him fighting bums until hes thirty anyway.

 

He should be careful what he wishes for. It's great for us from a fans perspective as Khan seems very ambitious and courageous but at the same time he should realize how well Warren matched him since the Prescott defeat. Things might not always be as smooth with another promoter.

 

I'm all for fighters taking more responsibility for their dealings, and reducing the share that someone else makes on the back of you.

Khan using Warren as basically a consultant is the right move for me, in his position I wouldn't eliminate him completely..... if only to save on legal fees from the inevitable writ that will be flying his way.

In America he can be expected to fight the best guys to make a name for himself, here he can fight any clown with two arms and legs and be able to pack out an arena.

The Maidana fight is definitely one I'd make right now - granted it doesn't make cash common sense, but neither did Salita really, why not throw the belt in then.

He'd look like a chicken vacating now. It isn't as if this fight will get bigger, Maidana despite his freakish right hand and plenty of balls, isn't a superstar and will soon have another loss on his record. Why not do the damage yourself, than let someone else get the credit?

 

Agreed Warren did do a great job after the Prescott mess, but Khan is 23 now and knows whats best for him that Prescott must of beat some sense into him. There is too much cherry picking in this day and age, I dont mind fighters taking risks, its good for the sport.

Even if Maidana knocked Khan out at least Khan will go out knowing he has a heart of a warrior, but i feel he knows his limits and he showed this in his recent radio interview on the ropes where he said he is not ready for Bradley but anyone else at 140 bar Manny ofcourse.

 

It's difficult. Khan want to break America straight away and the Maidaina fight won't sell there.

On the other hand I think Khan is only too aware of the stick he will get if he doesn't face Maidana or a more high profile guy with a bang!

 

Khan vs Maidana would be great as a co-feature.

I'm not against the move per se, he just ought to think long and hard about it. It's not going to be easy to just move to America and make fights, there is more than the actual promoting of fights that Warren would deal with.

The saving grace for Khan is if he did lose, he probably still could come back to the UK and have the fans loyalty still intact, whether with Warren again or another promoter.

 

You see the problem is Khan now trains in the U.S maybe he is not known by the normal public but the hardcore boxing fans out there know who he is and know about the hype from U.K this kid brings. Most U.S based boxing news sites report about him most of the time.

Ducking Maidana will not go down well just before him making his debut later this year. Khan is a proud guy, he wont want to give up the belt he dreamt about all his life.

The only problem in America is if he loses its a much longer way back. If you lose to a Maidana or Alexander what does that make Khan? He's nothing but a Vic Ortiz at that point, a talented guy that lost. Being in America is great while your stock is high, so maybe now is a good time.

has any1 noticed during interviews with roach when hes in the UK getting khan ready for his fights he looks unconfortable as hell and whenever questioned in the wildcard about going over to england for khans fights he treats it as a bit of a burden i think he doesnt like doing long distance travelling for meaningless defences so would rather have khan stay in the us and fight tom dick and harry there

 

Khan is making a terrible move if he leaves Warren. Further, his alleged insistence to go against both his trainer (some would say the best in the world) and his promoter just shows immature naivty.

You have an amazing team amir - listen to them. The next time you get knocked out, you might just find yourself unable to magically have your career rebuilt to a title shot again. Fans are fickle. Just look back to the threads that were created after prescott. You should give Frank a little more respect.

 

but would you credit khan if he takes the risk? staying with warren is the "safest" option, but will khan ever fulfil or even attempt to fulfil his pro boxing ambitions if he does so?

 

Diaz is probably the classic example of bad management.

He isn't that old, (about 25/26?) and has been in a lot of hard fights consecutively.... even the ''tune up'' against Katsidis was a bloody hard fight!

Ortiz just doesn't have it mentally, they gave him the acid test and he snatched defeat from the jaws of victory.... if he had won that fight he would be seen completely differently.
