Khan will be fighting 1lbs over his natural fighting weight of 154lbs..

I have my doubts about Canelo in some respects - he is just not busy enough for me - watched him against Mosley again recently - who was achient past it really and a former lightweight which not too much snap on his shots and personally I think he ran Canelo Very close - gave Mosley the first 4 rounds - for all his physical strength and power Canelo doesn't use his physicality enough in fights for me - most of the fight against Mosley it was Canelo backing away around the ring and letting Mosley advance confidently behind his jab - Canelo is just not busy enough he also seems to shoot exclusively for the head on the few occasions he did let his hands go in the first half of their fight.
You'd think he would go on the attack a little more and hustle and bustle and make the other guy work earlier in the fight? His strength isn't a factor if he just stands off at range all the time? And he does fight in a very one-paced way and it's not a fast one either?
His high guard can be difficult to penetrate at times but if he's not throwing back regularly enough and he's doesn't string together more than a couple of shots at any one time I think he's not utilising his assets properly - he didn't actually show any urgency until the 5th against Mosley but again in the sixth he just didn't sustain anything? Mosley did start looking his age in the 7th and I know Khan sometimes has started to flag a little at the halfway stage but not really in recent outings. But then in the 8th Mosley really gave Canelo a real working over on the ropes? So much so that Canelo butted in frustration and got a warning? And went back to his corner looking pretty dejected? It was only really in the last two frames where he really started going for it - not sure why he waits so long? And this was against an aging former lightweight without the snap on his shots? I think if you watch a lot of Canelos fights with the sound off or the commentary off so they don't influence you he's not quite as scary as people think a lot of the time - if he did suddenly change his style and start pressing the fight from the get go and back people up and upping his punch rate and using his bulk to be physical with people he'd definitely be a handful but if he backs off and let's less physical guys dictate and box him then he's shooting himself in the foot and giving fights away?

 

Yeah part of me thinks that as per usual Canelo will give the early rounds away but then I also thinks that because Khan hasn't had to boil down so badly he might surprise himself by how much stamina he has remaining in the 2nd half and then he might just be able to win a lot of the later half of the fights rounds to - Canelo took a bit of a drubbing on the ropes from a 40 year old Mosley whose not really a hitter and I don't think Canelo has improved massively since then? I could see Khan running away with this on points - he very rarely loses rounds?

 

Canelo isn't a master technician, isn't a murderous puncher, and doesn't have a great engine.

BUT he doesn't need any of the above to beat Khan.

Khan relies on speed, and overwhelming opponents with fast flurries.

His chin has been suspect at every weight he's fought at.

He lunges in and leaves his chin hanging out.

He had average power at 140, virtually none at 147, and here we are at 154.

Khan will do what he always does, and will look good for 3 or 4 rounds against a flat footed, slow starting Canelo.

Problem for Khan is that Canelo has great timing, doesn't miss with many punches, and whilst not being a massive puncher, he is a good finisher.

By the middle rounds Khan will be left looking skyward, with the same look on his face, that he had against Brescott.
