as talented as amir is, he fights nervous. I didn't really see any improvements in his game last night. He fought the same way he also has. He leaps in throws too many shots at once and wastes to much energy running away to reset instead of turning his opponent. He needs to be more patient with his offense and fight with more composure on both sides or he's gonna get caught again when he fights a guy with the size, strength, and speed to punch with him. He's an amazing talent but he's to panicky in there. I think roach is right, amir can't change his spots. Its a shame because if he would calm down he would be able to maximize his abilities. The guys hand speed is blinding. What we saw was the same old khan against an overmatched opponent. Its a damn shame because I think he has the natural abilities to beat mayweather but lacks the mental discipline and fortitude. (attributes may has in abundance in the ring) I must say I love his fighting spirit and his style (however flawed) will always make for exciting fights. Unfortunately unless we see a lot more progression in the next fight he's just another KO waiting to happen...
Until then, he'll continue to fill arenas with fans, and his garage with fancy cars. Don't count out Virgil Hunter's training skills either, Amir just needs to take that gym rat mentality and train between fights, which is the key experience missing. Talent, athleticism and dedication in camp is there, he just needs to be a professional 100% the time.
I agree. I only spotted slight improvements which were amplified only because of the overmatched opponent who allowed him to be more calm and measured than he normally is. I need to watch the fight again, because I missed the first 5 or so rounds and I suspect he was being a bit careless in them from the highlights I've seen. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rRf2Sbtbi6U[/ame] He needs more time with Virgil.
He needs to spend a lot of time breaking old habits and instilling new ones until they are second nature....its a long road but it can be done. I just didn't see the foundations of it last night that i was expecting too....he has the natural ability but I'm not sure he has the mind to do it and at this point in this career it going to take some serious dedication to make it a reality...i see him getting caught again before becoming the finished product he needs to be....
i did notice that and I think he was trying to show us that was the case, but considering the guy he was fighting and his size i'm not nearly sold on that yet...
I would say one more thing I noticed was when he threw his flurry of punches he took a step back... got in and get out.. before after he threw a combination he would stay there and go for some more combinations..
I was shocked how bad he looked, he was telling us he is a completely different fighter, but he looked exactly the same, all that he changed from his last two fights was the quality of his opponent. Khan is gonna get smashed to pieces again as soon as he steps up, same story throughout his career.
Wouldn't you be "panicky" if you had Khan's glass jaw? **** man, he's always one punch away from ***** street.
i think khans problem is himself, he has a false belief he isn't the same fighter, and they'v ironed out most the flaws, his management team should put him in with a top 10 fighter next someone like Denis Shafikov or Khabib Allakhverdiev as a co-main event with the judah-garcia bill, he needs to fight atleast 3 of these types of opponents and then a puncher, fighting peterson in summer would sell allot of tickets in england. on what i saw from last night matthyse and garcia whoop his ass.
