:tired Fair enough Thaxton is dangerous and a potential banana skin but Sports Network should be keen to test there charge against the division number 1... Instead he boxes some guy 99% of people will have never heard of.. how silly! That is why people lose interest in someones career....

I guess Thanxton hits a little bit too hard for china chops A Mere Kunt

i really can't stand the media attention this little dweeb gets after all his big talk he runs away from a mediocre fighter with a bit of pop

i thought this fight was going to happen up until a few days ago when reading an interview with Khan he stated he would 'only fight Thaxton if it didn't get in the way of his march to a world title'...which was the phony basis in which he pulled out i reckon

I actually think Khan wants the match... which makes it more infuriating.

I think Khan has confidence in himself no doubt.

If he really wants the fight and not to be a laughing stock he has to grow some balls and face down Warren and demand this fight happens.

I also believe he would win and i can't stand him...but i do believe he would take out Thaxton.

Thaxton is pricing himself out of the fight. He has got to realise Khan sells the tickets and gets the veiwers. There not gonna let the fight go to purse bids and have Khan making the same money as Thaxton, that would be ridiclious.

Give him his bloody pay day, he's deserved it more than you and then you can go globetrotting.

I think Hennessey offered 300 grand or something so I wonder what Sport Network offered Thaxton??

Leaves a funny taste in the mouth when you see what bigger fights have been and are being made in the sport and then this squirms away.

I agree with you there mate. "I'll fight Khan for free" in one breath, then in the enxt breath they fight for a 50-50 split. Even at 25% it'd probably be Jono's biggets payday (in years if not ever), so he shouldve really taken the fight. Win win for him. If he wins, all of a sudden he can get a couple of money matches, if not a rematch. If he loses he gets the biggest payday of his career. Where now for Jon? A fight in front of 2 or 3, thousand against another Dave stewart. Jon Murray is also tied up with Fewkes, so who will Jon fight.

Warren has Kastidis lined up for the summer, allegedly.

On the Guardian website Warren is quoted as saying "Khan is fighting Kristjansen next in an eliminator for the WBO Title so why should he fight Thaxton? It would be a backward step"

Khan's team need to be a little more consistent about why this fight really isn't happening.

If it is such a backward step why are they alleging they made Thaxton a significant offer outside of the bidding process and are now rubbishing him again in the media for apparently turning it down?

It is a contradiction in itself.

Perhaps they didn't like the fact purse bids were apparently going to be a 50/50 split and that, together with the risk Thaxton could pose, wasn't a gamble worth taking - especially when there is an easy alternative route for Khan being mapped out.

Bottom line is it was Khan that withdrew his interest in this fight not Thaxton.

You could turn this the other way around - why didn't Khan fight Thaxton when he offered to fight him for free then?

I suspect its the same reason he isn't fighting him now.

Apparently it was the Board that ruled this fight would be a 50/50 split not Thaxton.

We don't know what Warren's alleged offer to Thaxton outside of the bidding process was - perhaps there were unreasonable demands attached to it like it was suggested about the previous offers he is alleged to have made to Haye before the Maccarinelli fight was made?

The most telling part of your post was the last line - if Warren has Katsidis lined up for the summer he was unlikely to risk Khan in with Thaxton before then anyway.

Just to be pedantic. Khan didnt withdraw his interest, his promotional team did. Amir would fight Thaxton tomorrow, but he is led by a promotional outfit who dictate who he fights. Lets be fair, if I were a boxer and my promotional team said to me "we're withdrawing you from purse bids against Jon Thaxton because you're fighting for a world title in the summer" I'd go with that.

As for the fight for free thing, Khan wasnt eligable to fight for the british title at that point, also I doubt it wouldve been feasible, has that ever happened in boxing?

I really dont thik Khan is intimidated by a man who struggled with Dave Stewarts boxing ability, also Khan finished Lawton quicker and in much much better fashion. Okay, to us that might not mean much, we can even rubbish it, but to a boxer it must be a little psychological edge.

I think he tries his best but at the end of the day he's just a young lad with a load of talent and a load of money. The arrogance is rearing it's head a little bit which is a shame but he's a long way from turning into the next Naz.

I hope he goes on to splat all comers but it wasn't half funny when Limond stuck him on his arse and his ever growing throng of cheerers and hangers on were silent gawping up at the ring like a load of "Beakers" from the muppet show:D

While it's easy to point fingers at one side or another and start flinging out insults...

I think Thaxton wants to get a good payday out of this so wants to push as high as possible. He's already turned down the intial offer that, allegedly, would've been the higest purse of his career. He wants to hold out for more money.

I think in Khan's camp, they have this fight coming up in February and see this whole Thaxton issue, now that the initial offer has been turned down, as an unnecessary distraction and so therefore have ditched it for now.

End result - fight falls through since both sides can't resolve it at the moment.
I'd still bet this fight will happen this year anyway.

Does there really need to be such vitriol?
