I don't know if it was an official candidate, but In my eyes it was, dirty fight but a very good one never the less.
I agree, he really struggles to keep guys off. It's strange because he hurt Peterson numerous times so he seems to have enough on his shots. So I don't think it's exactly that. I think he gets on his bike far too much, he needs new strategies to enforce a reset and get it back to mid range. He should have held more, made the ref separate them, he let Peterson work out of the clinch too much. End of the day his inside game is non existent, from both an attacking and defensive point of view. He needs to learn a few tricks to paper over the cracks.
he's only got the name 'chinny' because he was destroyed at lightweight, his legs have got stronger and won't go down as easy
Are you really surprised that people care more about Khan winning fights and succeeding than being in FOTY candidates, Scurla? All this is is that you have different priorities. I think you'll find that most people love that Khan's exciting, but would have happily traded a bit of that excitement last night in exchange for him not being stupid and winning.
Indeed, he does seem to struggle to keep folk off. He doesn't appear to have much of an inside game to stand his ground. Also, he doesn't seem to be able to convincingly tie people up.
Yeah it seems the plan in close is hold up your guard and hope for the best. Peterson worked the body and the uppercut was always available when he did this. I contrast Khan working off the backfoot to Floyd (mighty high standard I know) but Khan wants to be in that mix up. Could you imagine Floyd or Pac having Peterson come at them like Khan did hit him with shots Khan did and still have him coming on? I think Peterson would quickly have given up trying those tactics if Floyd or Pac were hitting him with the work Khan was. Again not knocking Khan, as he is in the mix up for those kind of fights so it's reasonable to ask how he would compare.
It looks terrible when he tries to tie up the other fighter, he definitely needs to add this and inside tricks to his game. Surprised Freddie hasn't got more improvement out of him in this regard.
Thanks for bringing it to my attention. I was saying I don't automatically support someone just because they're British.
