For any followers of Khan, I just wanted to know... is the Prescott fight the only evidence of him having a weak chin? I mean sure a first round KO is a good indicator for one but it could also be the result of a good initial shot. Or has he been wobbled in other fights? I've only watched 2 fights of his.
its not exagerated in the slightest, khan has been down numerous times as pro and amateur and it doesn't take a big shot to do it. he is the definition of a - ' a disgracefull glass jaw'. credit to roach though, he knows how disgracefull that chin is and hes got khans guard up high and just throwing straight shots so its hard to land cleanly on that fraudulent mandible.
People do exaggerate it a bit (usualy specific posters who relate to it at every opportunity) but in all fairness he does have an AWFUL chin, so bad it could be argued to be the worst in the sport.
Over-exaggerated by some, but he does have a shaky chin...that's not even debatable. Maidana lands clean once or twice, it's pretty much over. Maidana lands clean once, it's a fight changer.
This. Don't be fooled by the careful matchmaking. He's only ever fought one guy with decent power - Prescott. Now Maidana has forced them to fight or give up the title, he's getting starched, early.
No, it's not. I watched him as an amateur and talked about the glass chin on ESB, before he ever made a serious name for himself. He's been hurt and time and time again by nothing shots and knocked out by the first puncher he fought, in under a minute. There's no question he has a glass chin. If you look at just the Prescott fight, I can see why people may think it's overblown, but look at the Limond, Gomez, Barrera fights etc.. It's been constant in his career. However, we've yet to see whether he can take a better shot now. Maybe the jump to 140lbs did him good. Naturally though, he'll always have a poor chin but it could have improved, we don't know yet.
how many times has he been shook at light welter? his frame and the lightweight division was not right for him,he had less energy and strenght to hold up to good shots. and he didnt box at all. now hes not drained,he has bulked up his frame,& conditioning will help also.
He has got a weak chin, as is evident by the fact he's been down multiple times as a pro and of course the knockout. However, I dare say Kotelnik (though no puncher) hits harder than a lot of the lightweights that put him down, so maybe now he's at the right weight he has more durability. Though, maybe it's been improved from glass, to earthenware.
I've never hugely bought into the idea that moving up such a small amount is gonna vastly improve your ability to take a punch. You have to remember also that when you move up you're fighting bigger/heavier opponents, so the weight shift is kinda nullified.
His chin is weak no doubt, but they were all at lightweight. I honestly think his chin is more durable at LWW because I think he was draining too much to stay at LW. Thing is, this next fight won't prove one bit if Khan still has a glass jaw because Maidana would give ANYBODY trouble landing a flush shot.
