He's another knockout waiting to happen. Which is simply down to his stance. He's easy to hit and keeps his head usually within range of a counter. His Stance and Chin = KO waiting to happen.
Amir looked good. He looked good in the Garcia fight too before getting KO'd. Last night he looked like the exact same fighter he was under Freddie, the only difference was Amir did not get over excited and didn't go looking for the KO. If Hunter is going to make some technical improvements you won't see anything in their first fight together. He faced Molina whom he should have dominated.
he has atg speed, he has the heart of a lion, his self-confidence is hard to shake and he has a very good jab, that if used more often, could be one of the best of it's era and i'm not from the uk so i guess i don't count as an idiot
He looked good, but that chin was still higher than the Empire State Building at times. It seemed to me like Virgil and Andre Ward are at pains to point out that Khan is still hugely flawed, and there is still a ton of work to be done. As usual though,it was an entertaining fight to watch apart from Molina's corner fixing the over by not pulling him out when they should've:twisted:
Its easy to look good against a bum you can outclass. Lets see what happens when he fights someone good who can throw him off his game plan. The second he gets hit he'll revert back to form and get KTFO.
When carefully matched-- ie when up against an undersized opponent or an opponent who does not have the firepower to test his fragile beard--Khan will always look impressive. Khan is only average defensively, and once you adjust to his speed and height, he's there to be hit and had. A Garcia rematch will end the same way as the first bout. Any quaility opponent that isn't afraid to "take one to give one" will stretch this kid.
This^ Garcia must have been licking his lips with glee watching that fight. For all the superb handspeed against a very average(and I think he deserved a confidence builder) there was nothing to suggest he would fare better in a Garcia rematch.
The thing about Amir wanting a rematch with Garcia is he knows that he is the better boxer. Khan was beating Garcia fairly easily before getting stretched. The mistake Amir made was getting over confident and going for the KO instead of letting the KO come naturally behind a good strategic game plan. For what it's worth, I think Danny's father helped take Khan out of his game by getting under Khan's skin. On fight night, Khan was expecting to KO Garcia and went out guns blazing. That was a mistake he paid dearly for. Amir blamed Roach but in reality it was his own mistake that caused him to lose.
I'll need to watch the fight again as I missed half of it, but I noticed slight improvements - helped by the opponent who allowed him to exhibit them. I'm still not convinced he'd fair better against Garcia or any other hard hitter. One training camp won't fix his flaws. He needs more time.
Its far too early to judge any early improvements. We'll see if these improvements continue when he is put under real pressure. It's easy to look good while fighting a 2nd rate opponent.
I certainly saw some improvements. More thinking. Much more double tripple jabs and not committing too much. The think that impressed me the most which ive never seen him do before was the inside fighting. The previous khan would just tuck up and try and push his opponnent away before throwing combinations but this Khan was bobbing and weaving on the inside and landing uppercuts. Ill tell you this Virgil guy can make some serious improvements over the long term!!
