Might have aready been posted so ignore if it has but he claimed he would like to fight Maidana and then Bradley/Alexander after the malignaggi fight. Todays Daily Mirror have Richard Schaefer saying they are going to a cross atlantic double header on 31st July featuring Khan V Katsidis and Marquez V Diaz and the winners to face of at the end of the year. Any thoughts on these potential matches. Does this mean Khan will drop his Light Welter strap and move back down to lightweight or are they gonna try and move his opponents up to jnr welter
I dont think this is a smart move. There will be too many issues then too many excuses then just a pile of rubbish at the end of it. If khan beats katsidis then he is to big for kats. If he beats marquez then marquez is too small and old. Juan diaz v khan wud be a good fight and can see it happening at LWW but i dont think khan really wants to go down to LW again so if kats fight is made then it seems like it will happen at LWW.
Its a bit of a joke if this happens. Katsidis has earned his title shot at the marquez vs diaz winner, he shouldnt have to move up to 140 and fight Khan in july! 3 lightweights and a lightwelter! Why does Khan have to have ALL the advantages in order to win his fights!
I don't see Khan leaving JWW again. Fighters like Katsidis will have to come up in weight. Katsidis will never reach Khan's chin. Khan's too tall and has too great a reach advantage. I think Khan could outbox Maidana, but he's too great a risk at this stage of Khan's career. They won't take the gamble.
I have a feeling Khan vs Urango is next. Urango will have much more power than Paulie and will test Kahn's improved chin. Also this fight will be fairly low risk for kahn. On top of that it will give a common opponent to compare to Alexander. Everybody is big on Alexander right now mostly for his victory over Urango. 140 is really shaping up to be a great division, maybe the best in boxing.
Definitely move opponents up if anything. Khan is no longer a lightweight. It nearly killed him to make it for his last few fights at that weight. I think Maidana is the best option for him. He can't hide from big punchers forever and it would help shut up his detractors. Kats is a dodgy enough fight who can punch but he offers not a whole lot in terms of reward. Should wait for Maidana to get over his injury. Khan v Marquez or Diaz doesn't interest me in the slightest.
