Thought it was really odd that during the ITV coverage of Khan v Earl they kept insisting they were competing for the No 1 spot in the lightweight division with no mention of Thaxton. Wouldn't surprise me if the majority of the viewing british public aren't aware he is actually the British Champion and mandatory for the Commonwealth & European Titles.
I agree. I think "Stalin" Warren has had his airbrush out and Thaxton no longer exists as far as the general public are concerned.
Thats not accurate. When Thaxton was named as the No. 1 contender for the European Title recently he stated that his next defence of the British Title would be against the winner of Khan v Earl and he expected and hoped it was Khan. It is Khan's camp that appear to have gone quiet about Thaxton.
Regarding Khan getting more rounds, I think he can do this in training all year round. If he can knock the opponent out in a round, then why should he bother waiting for a points decision? If Warren plans to skip Thaxton then it better be for a bigger fight, such as Romanov. I think he did hint at a European title. Throw in a Danny Williams fight for good measure.
You don't get paid for over time. I think Khan should fight another fighter like the frenchman he went 12 rounds with before fighting Romanov or Thaxton, get soem rounds under his belt against a tough african thats never been Knocked Out!
During the press conference Warren stated that the fight was for the No.1 lightweight spot in Britain "despite what Jon Thaxton might think". It could have been his way of saying he had no plans for Khan to fight him. I can't see it happening, unless Thaxton has a couple more fights and looks like he's well on the slide.
Do you mean Rachid Drizlane? That was only 10 rounds, and the guy had 1 KO in 12 fights. Warren will no doubt come up with somebody "credible".
well the next fight is supposed to be 2nd feb....so the announcement will have to be pretty soon unless FW doesn't want to give the opponent time to prepare.
