DeGale and Khan had both done very well. Personally, I thought Khan may do well whereas I expected nothing from DeGale.

Khan was only 17 when he was giving one of Cuba's best a tough ride and DeGale, an outsider really, ends up putting in a great performance and comes away with a gold.

I think they are on par.

It'll be interesting to see if the hype machine goes into overdrive on DeGale like it did with Khan, should be more so seeing as he got gold.

Doubt it though as theres no angle like 'the poster boy for young British Muslims' like there was with Khan

Khans silver medal set up loads more than degale will get, khan basically won the gold medal the amount of credit he got, 4 years after the olympics hes a multi millionaire.. you dont see thousands of fans waitng for degale at heathrow airport do ya?

on paper Degales Gold is better but realisticly khan came away better than degale will

    Gold > Silver.

That's really all that needs to be said.

    Khan was more impressive.

    Gold is better.

DeGale will probably end up challenging for a world title before Khan at this rate.

you'd have to have either an axe to grind or be a complete simpleton to not take competition into account.

its like me having a 100m race against 3 7 year olds and winning, then trying to claim thats better than Richard Thompson finishing second to usain bolt.

That sums it up exactly. If the question was about Khan being better in 2004 despite the silver then the author wouldn't have looked like an idiot. As it is...

That has to be the worst and most laughable analogy of all time.

It's not quite as simple as you describe. We're talking about 2 fighters both fighting at Olympic standard.

    DeGale's competition was good anyway.

Hikal won bronze at the world championships
Estrada beat a guy like Jacobs to qualify who is a highly touted pro prospect
Artayev is a former gold medalist at WW
Sutherland was expected to beat him and had a 4-1 record against him

So let's put this **** to bed.
