    Something to think about:
Andres Aldama: 1976 silver medal against Sugar Ray Leonard
1980 gold medal against John Mugabi with an American boycott.
Which medal takes pride of place in his trophy cabinet?

And i've had a look in my crystal ball and I don't see too much for Mr DeGale........i've only listened to the bloke twice and I already want to see him KTFO.

what has the way he talks got to do with his fight game, it's pathetic the way people go on about this. for goodness sake its not a party political broadcast. the way a fighter talks has nothing to do with how good or bad his pro career will be

I'm sorry, but for your argument to hold water you would have to accept that Clay and Bruno, or Duran and David Diaz have parity. They both won Heavyweight and lightweight titles respectively. Same sport, same title, vast gulf in class and achievement.

Who said anything about the way he talks? My conclusion as to his future in the pros has got nothing to do with the way he talks, rather his performance in the ring.....even my missus spotted that he slaps.

A Calzaghe comparison is hardly a dazzling endorsement, at least in my book :D

So by your accounts it would have been a better achievement for DeGale to have met Kindelan in the final and lost? It wouldn't.

Er, no. Two were long reiging champions who won undisputed titles, the other two were alphabet title holders. So, another hopeless comparison there. Khan and DeGale went through bascially the same process. So Clay's gold medal was comparable of course with, say, Michael Carruth's gold medal. The system in olympics amateur boxing is virtually the same throughout.

...and anyway you misread my post. I said to NUFC if he was going to make analogies, make them in the same sport.

What if DeGale was able to drop weight, climb into a time machine and take the place of Khan in the 2004 final. If DeGale beat Kindelan, would that be a greater achievement than the 2008 version of DeGale beating Correa? Same process, same gold medal. (Please don't say no because it is patently obvious what the correct answer is)

Yes it would, but it wouldn't be a better achievement going back and losing to Kindelan.

Well, inventing a time machine would have been an amazing achievement. :good

And the answer is 'yes' becuase he beat Kindelan, just as Khan's would have been if he'd have beaten him- but he didn't. So if Khan had have won, while their end result is still the same, the debate is who 'beat better fighters'. So, if we're comparing Khan and DeGale talk about people they defeated not lost to. Other fighters lost to Kindelan also but were unfortunate to be on the same side of the draw as him. Still, the overall achievement is still the same only in this case his opposition was tougher. Roger Black claimed silver to Michael Johnson in the 400 metres a few years back, the thing is 'someone' had to come second.
