At the very least, they knew it was unavoidable that they had to face him at some point. They didnt want it, but probabaly realised after the Corley fight, that since they have to fight him, it may as well be now while he doesnt look good

 

It wasn't always unavoidable. Anyone who believes TK or GBP has been trying to keep Khan out of the way of Maidana because he's a dangerous puncher isn't seeing things as they are. Their desire to avoid him has purely been for financial reasons, they wanted big names for Khan, for his US fights in order to get back the huge minimum dollar sum per fight gaurantee that Khan has, not obscure argentians. The man they wanted at the weight was Bradley, who they hoped to face at some point after Bradley defeated Maidana, making the Maidana fight unnecessary, unfortunately it didn't turn out like that

 

It was hardly a dream. Khan was there in front our eyes on the TV screen, stating his desire to take on Maidana. And no, not that it matters, Maidana was not set to face Bradley at that time. It was called off:

Team Khan always had the intentions of fighting him at some point. The choice of Katsidis and Casamayor as opponents, were only for the keep-busy July date. Khan wanted a quick fight before he took a month out for Ramadhan, and those two guys were for that date only.

And yes, they wanted JMM for the winter, but they've always been chasing that fight for the purpose of building Khan up in the US. From a promotional perspective, fighting and beating a JMM would benefit them greatly when setting up a Maidana fight.

You're misconstruing my post. I said "Khan, immediately after Malignaggi, stating he wants Maidana next (this was months before Corley)" in repsonse to those who say Khan only showed interest in fight Maidana because he looked bad against Corley. I wasn't saying they 'immediately approached Maidana with an offer'.

What I'm objecting to, mostly, is those that make it as though Khan never wanted Maidana at all, and wanted to avoid him at all costs. That's evidently not the case now is it, as he's signed to fight him for December. And like I've said many times before, why does it matter how the fight eventually came into place? It's all a mute point because they're fighting now.

It's exactly the same case with the Mayweather/Mosley fight. Everyone was talking about how Mayweather was 'forced' into taking it. So friggin what?! The man goes onto beat the breaks off him. Isn't that what matters in the end?

 

they took this fight because alex and brad are tied up. jmm didn't want it. the fans want to see khan face his mandatory and a puncher.

Khan's critics have been banging on for absolutely AGES that he ducks punchers etc, and how they desperately want to see him in a ring with a proper puncher. You've got what you wanted now!!!!!! ****ing rejoice!!!! But instead we have people on here still not happy..and looking at ways to criticise Khan because he was allegedly forced into the fight and all that malarky. Bottom line, with this fight Khan is addressing one of the main criticisms he often gets from so-called boxing fans so they should all be really happy.

 

So much for the moaners saying they would give khan credit if he ever thought maidana.....

 

Are you missing the fact that in the post-fight interview on HBO, he didn't call out any of Marquez, Casamayor or Katsidis, and said that he wanted Maidana and hoped that Bradley-Alexander would come off in a 4-man tournament with the winners facing each other?

Golden Boy were looking at Marquez or Katsidis/Casamayor. Those words never came from Khan's mouth. The only words that did were live on HBO after the Malignaggi fight; 'I want Maidana next'.

I don't think Khan or his team are naive enough to judge a fighter on one fight.

They know all they need to know about Maidana; he hits increadibly hard, he brings pressure and he can get befuddled and out boxed quite easily. The Corley fight didn't show us anything we didn't already know about Maidana.

 

Interesting fight, style wise they are very similar fighters. Wouldn't be surprised to see this one end in a draw.

Yes why? Both good hand speed, tight guards, straight right the most effective weapon. Only real advantage for Khan is the fact that Roach is in his corner but with the Parkinsons you never know how much it has hindered his ability to help. Khan's chin has improved since the Prescott defeat and Maidana's doesn't look all that special at the moment. Will be interesting.....
