I think he might've just been anomalous, perfectly suited to super fly (as his in-shape fighting weight) and yet appearing for the naked eye to be a miniature Hulk. In his title reign he was remarkably consistent with making the limit (on the nose 115lbs in 15 of 19 defenses, the rest ½ or even a full pound below)

Most guys that push the envelope with their bodies' elasticity and play the "drain myself and rehydrate an entire medium dog into a monster (at the risk of perhaps overclocking the metaphor, putting this in actual pooch breed terms, a Malamute in Pomeranian's clothing)" game can only get away with it for so long before it takes a toll. I can't imagine he would've been able to do so for that long.

 

It's remarkable that Galaxy was able to make the weight for so long and not suffer any ill effects, nevermind fight hard for 15 rounds. Mental.

 

Not really. It's half way to the party town of Pattaya and is coastal but there is nothing really there. At that time Pattaya used to be a place to occasionally host big fights, but most of the big boxing bouts were held in the two big MT stadiums Lumpinee and Rajadamnern or Hua Mark sports stadium. I expect the Thai Chinese owner of the crocodile farm may have suggested the location, paid the promoters a load of money in the hope it may bring international tourists who were watching the big bout around the world. These days of the big boxing bouts are held in club carparks not the big stadiums. Not sure why...possibly money.

 

Thanks Russ, I'll check it out at some point. I'm not 100% sure what weight Galaxy used to come into the ring at but I think he basically looks like a huge bantamweight at worst, probably featherweight even. I've read several times over the years that he was a big drainer.

 

I don't know really. I don't follow it too much in a conscious way. I watch more MT in Thailand, it's on all the time and it's weird I kinda follow the boxing world outside Thailand much more, always have. It's very hard to follow it here because there isn't really a scene and you never really know where or when there are going to be boxing bouts. Mostly they aren't in BKK, many are in Issan or dotted around the country very often the province the fighter is from. Sometimes your sitting at home and a boxing bout will just come on live and unannounced and always mid week in the day. Alot of the fighters that crossover and start to make a name sometimes just disappear back to MT, so it's kinda hard to follow if that makes any sense. Its very disjointed scene here.

The other thing is it's always here, so I know I can dip in and out as there's always going to be someone crossing over and climbing the ladder as this country just has such a huge pool of fighting talent.

 

A fighter who deserves a mention in this impressive thread is Saensak Muangsurin. Lomanencko equalled his record for winning world title in 3 pro fight but Saensak still holds the record for quickest time by 11 days.

 

Boranbkk what do u think of Petch Sor Chitpattana vs Frenchman Nardino fight Paris Jun 23 ? There is not many Thai vs French fights at world level. But i will never forget the 2006 bout between French Mahyar Monshipour vs Somsak Sitchatchawal. This was the Fight of the Year 2006 Espn and Ring Magazine. If the Jun fight is half as entertaining as this fight it will be a contender for fight of the year 2018.
