Basically, I've been reading about this wee bantamweight in a book, and he sounds like he was a class act, despite only coming out of Asia once to fight. I'll be honest my knowledge of him was zero before reading up, which is ridiculous seeing as his last fight was in 1991.I could spraff off a book worth of stuff about boxers pre WWII, but not this guy who is quite recent history. Did any of you ever see him in Action, after reading about him i'd like to watch some footage of his fights (which is proving hard) and hear views of those who seen him in dust off his gloves.

    Anyway, cheers guys.:good

I also just noticed browsing through wikipedia he is 43rd in the Ring Magazine's list of the 80 Best Fighters of the Last 80 Years. This wsn't mentioned in the book. Clearly he did get some exposure internationally then?

He was exciting and very, very good. His opposition is not know in the West, and it has been known that ignorance breeds contempt. But Kim, Pical and Contreras were very solid, and he beat everything put in front of him for 10 years.

I've always been wondering about this guy too. He seems to be the least known champ on this board. Hell, I was able to get troves of info about Yoko Gushiken over anything on Galaxy. But this is what I can gather about the guy by watching his highlights. He seems extremely confident in the ring, he takes shots with ease, and he is insanely strong. Looking at him it seems that's he's all muscle. His punches don't look too...speedy and crisp, but when he lands the other fighters fall. I wish there was someone who could really break this one open for us.

I've been checking out more and more about this guy. Is there anybody that knows of any good fighters that could have challenged Galaxy's claim to the best of at that weight division? During that time period and all that.

Also things I've noticed, he has a decent inside fighting game. His style is built around getting in range and landing bombs. His chin looks fairly decent, and even if he gets hit with a big shot he'll to a three step retreat, setup his footwork and got back towards his opponent. He had a very no nonsense style that was all about his power shots. Some fights he starts out insanely slow, I can't think of the exact fight, but Galaxy just wades into the center of the ring and throws less than what I'd consider a pawing jab. After his opponent started to land a few jabs Galaxy picked up the pace. Also he was very adaptive in the ring. His jab looks like he was trying to spear his challengers with his fist. His defense was also built around the strength he carried in his frame. He'd deflect or totally stop head shots with his gloves.

There are a good number he didn't fight and i can't see anything in him that should rate him above the others.

Most of his title fights were televised in the UK, he was a hell of a fighter who would just walk down and wear out his opponents. He had a very 'kick boxing' type guard with his hands high and nearly level with each other.

I'm not a Galaxy expert, but he was a Muay Thai fighter before becoming a boxer, which could explain his slow starts (thai boxing starts off very slowly traditionally) and his defensive posture at times.
In his first pro fight, he was a substitute and was actually sitting in the crowd when it was announced that the opponent did not turn up. Galaxy offered his services, won the fight, and launched his career.

Horribly overrated. Ring putting him at 43rd all time is an absolute joke of the highest order. He is not a top 100 fighter of all time in my opinion, and in the opinion of most I've spoken to.

Not only is his resume nowhere near top notch, considering he never fought the best around his weight, but stylistically, based on the footage I've seen, there is no way he could hang with the elites around his weight. Someone like Mijares today would give him a thorough beating.

He may have fought and beat some decent fighters in Asia, but not guys who were elite fighters, and based on his immense technical deficiencies, it was for good reason that he decided to stay away from the best.

I see a lot of power and immense physical strength, but he's lacking in terms of technical skill and defense.
