This is for the vacant WBA gold world super fly title. I don't really understand why it would be vacant, since Aloyan defended it just eight months ago. Maybe he announced his retirement prior to deciding to have this swansong? You'd think instead of making him "recapture" it the WBA might just consider this a continuation of his same reign.

Interestingly, despite all his amateur successes and despite having competed for some type of title in 80% of his professional matches after today, he will be walking away empty-handed in terms of legitimate world championships (losing to Zolani Tete in his lone bid for one).

I believe he may have been rated top 15 in the world by at least one major org almost that whole time, as well. (since after his first 2-3 bouts in 2017, having boxed for less than a calendar year)

    Round 1

Aloyan is sidestepping, ducking and weaving, changing directions. So far not looking to engage. Barreto advancing upon his fellow southpaw, trying lead right hooks and big lefts rocketing up from his chest, but Aloyan with enough anticipation, movement and parrying to not let anything through. Quick one-two downstairs by Aloyan. Barreto following, more cautious as the round progresses, overthinking it a bit.

10-9 Aloyan, barely touched each other throughout but he did slightly cleaner (although Barreto was offensively busier, at least early)

    Round 2

Aloyan is proving too fleet en pointe for Barreto, who lunges in with jousting right jabs and straight combos up top. Aloyan skipping laterally around the ropes, in what I'm just now realizing is an ENORMOUSLY large ring (for super flies at least). You could fit a couple of pianos in there and still leave room to box & move comfortably. Aloyan circling and occasionally pausing by the ropes to bait in Barreto and pot shot him with counter two-pieces on the upper jaw.

10-9 Aloyan, winning, but cheaply so.

    20-18 Aloyan

Barreto has a record fairly typical of South Americans flown overseas to be fed to prospects (or in this case amateur legends needing an easy tough against whom to have their farewell bout).

He is 16-1 (15), nearly all those knockouts scored against foes with losing records, and himself getting stopped his one time stepping up in class (made to quit on his stool after two rounds versus José Francisco "Chihuas" Rodríguez Tamayo).

He's bound for a shutout here, unless he can solve this puzzle. So far he looks predictably stymied.

    30-27 Aloyan

Is Aloyan trained by Usain Bolt? He makes Rigondeaux look like Gatti.

Four zip Aloyan ...doing the absolute bare minimum and doing that with aplomb, is the nicest that can be said. :sisi1

Run, run, run, run run... jab-jab, run, run, run, run run.

    Ad nauseum.

Barreto simply doesn't have a second gear or a plan B to punish him for it, and so we're now halfway toward exactly the shutout in the forecast.

To his credit, when he thinks he is within range, Barreto is swinging for the fences with giant decapitation-minded right hooks, but...not really close to striking paydirt with any of them.

The only thing at this point that might inject some interesting drama into the proceedings would be if Aloyan wanted to at least try for bowing out with a KO.

    He very clearly doesn't. :ohno

Barreto had some nearer misses in the seventh, grazed Aloyan more often. This could actually get fun down the stretch if Aloyan has run himself ragged and doesn't have a second wind in his tank.

Every time Barreto rushes in and paws at him with a right hook, Aloyan checks it with a plunging right jab and then darts off in a clockwise spiral, now and then with a parting check hook of his own. Barreto getting in some thumping right jabs on the sternum and left hands lower on the body when he rushes Aloyan into the ropes, but can't land a clean head punch to save his life. Aloyan tired but can still rubberneck enough to slip everything, and is still outrunning Barreto enough to not create too many opportunities.

Barreto having a go in the ninth. Rushing in, jabbing the body, hooking at the head ...and falling short.

The commentators are obviously bored, as they start peppering in the name "Mike Tyson" amongst the unintelligible (to me) Russian. I'm not sure if they're sarcastically comparing either fighter to him, or what, but they say "Mike Tyson" about half a dozen times in the span of a minute. Pretty sure one then snickers.

90-81 Aloyan, keepaway all day. Barely getting in a jab here and there, but that's more than he's permitting Barreto.

    Round 10

Aloyan runs. Barreto hunkers down into a crouching gallop in pursuit. He fishes with a jab, and is deflected and passed by, Aloyan circling wider and wider out. Barreto comes in again, having a hand placed behind his neck and pushing him down. In again, clinched. The action is basically never given a chance to start, Aloyan shutting it down when it might. Aloyan twirls Barreto away from him with a right glove on his chest and then beans him upside the head with a long lead left down the pipe as they're careening in opposite directions.

    10-9 Aloyan
