All comes down to the last two rounds on my card...who can dig deep and/or find a new wrinkle in their game?

    Round 9

Tellézgirón is angling the left side of his body in against Faniian to anchor himself and landing short hooks, then strapping him on the neck and face with right hands unseen in their wind-up from the obscured side as he backs up. Faniian clinching up a storm now, but the ref is all over them. Faniian realizes he needs to fight or run, so he tries a little of both. Tellézgirón pressuring relentlessly, leaning forward bent at the waist and slipping some (but not all) jabs and light backfoot 1-2-3s with turns of his head. HUGE hooks on the body by Tellézgirón.

    10-9 Tellézgirón

    85-84 Tellézgirón

    Round 10

Tellézgirón is batting down at Faniian's jab with his right glove on the outside. Tellézgirón swipes at the body, lunging, but Faniian is too far out and quickly crunching/folding himself in the middle so it only grazes. Faniian takes some body shots but is able to push Tellézgirón off and jab him at range. Nice jabs now by Faniian. Tellézgirón prodded into a corner and they clinch. Break ordered. Tellézgirón working body combos but very arm weary now, everything hitting elbows. Sloppy infighting, with Faniian bending over and Tellézgirón holding and hitting until the ref warns him to stop. Faniian bashes his way clear of a clinch (which he initiated) with a clubbing right hand on the break. Ref letting them fight. Overhand right by Tellézgirón. One in reply by Faniian. Rabbit punches by Tellézgirón in the clinch.

    10-9 Faniian

    94-94

Well let's see how the judges have it. The couple of reasonable ones, I mean, not the guy that after eight had only given Tellézgirón a single round (plus the points for the knockdown and foul deduction on Faniian)

I didnt formally score it tbh but if I did I might have Faniyan nicking it with his jab. But sometimes when you actually score the fight it turns out different than you think. Nail biting moments here.

Okay so the judge that had wide is still problematic. This should've been within a couple of points either way.

I had Faniian winning more rounds (6-4) but the point deduction and knockdown made it a draw on my card. I could see it a narrow win for either.

96-92 is too wide no matter in whose favor.

That said, good for Tellézgirón, he seems over the moon. Hopefully we get a rematch.

Big ups to Faniian, btw - if he knew he was down on the cards per WBC open scoring, to know that he basically needed a KO to win (and wasn't going to get one; he only has one ever on his pro record) and still come out and win round ten like that...very admirable.

We're so conditioned in this sport to always fear home cooking, we never see gift scorecards in favor of the visitor coming.
