Baysangurov is getting the best of the mid-range exchanges and now stepping willingly into Valenzuela's wheelhouse, swapping pendulous body shots with him and wrestling him onto the ropes. Valenzuela looping shots desperately at the sides of Baysangurov's head with both hands and then hanging onto him to stay upright, exhausted. Breaks ordered by the ref when they get too ensnared. HUGE STRAIGHT RIGHT BY BAYSANGUROV, that shook Valenzuela up badly. He falls back to the ropes under fire but manages to clinch and then slugs with Baysangurov after the ref breaks them apart.

10-9 Baysangurov, could've been 10-8 if he'd put his figurative boot-heel down on Valenzuela's throat, there was plenty of time when he had him hurt to up the intensity and go for a finish.

It is like he's trying to prove some macho point. "I can fight your way and still win".

 

Round 9

Baysangurov is ramming his shoulder into Valenzuela to thumb-tack him in place and then working body shots, twisting at the hip for emphasis. Valenzuela is letting big right hands sail up from his hip to Baysangurov's head even as Baysangurov is clipping him on the orbital bone with short left hooks looming over him. Pretty frenetic and untidy exchanges here, both getting hit but Baysangurov is the fresher man with the more accurate punching and the one pressing forward.

Agreed, he should have gotten the whole testosterone display out of his system by now and should just box before Valenzuela's durability & patience turn this into a fable...

Round 10

Baysangurov is in cruise control, spending larger portions of the round now backing off, letting Valenzuela fling himself in with haphazard attacks working from waist to head. Baysangurov is clipping him with counter rights down the middle as they circle in the middle of the ring, and breaks his way free of a corner with a particularly well-leveraged left hook that knocks Valenzuela back while turning his head nearly full-way around. Valenzuela busier, just can't hit much more than above the belt line here and there with single shots, with everything higher up well defended by Baysangurov's arm positioning or simply out of reach due to his height (and movement).

10th was a round that Baysangurov almost willingly gave away, if only Valenzuela had more left in the tank to take advantage. Instead the slow motion highlight reel shows nothing but Valenzuela eating leather.

 

I see no need to acknowledge Adonis' existence, unlike the weird old bleached-blonde Ukrainian guy who looks stoked to be getting a selfie with him.
