Khomitsky v Etches

I read Etches interview in the programme at the fight and it's delusonal. He's the best British middle weight, he can beat any middle weight on the planet, beating him quicker than Golovkin will make a statement etc.

This type of delusional stuff is detrimental when you actually believe it. This was always a very tough ask.

 

How popular is Adam in Sheffield? Got a great reception.

 

Well he manages to do a load of tickets for every fight, so I'd say very popular.. He's a lot to learn obviously , his defence is shoddy & his head is stuck on a stick by the looks of it. But & it's a massive but, he's a young kid whose already got a good amount of exposure - in a division which with the exception of the main boys (Murray , mack , BJS & Eubank) doesn't have a great depth... There's make able fights with Ryder , Blackwell & even spike - once the rebuilding process is on the road .


He can & will come again!

 

This may sound harsh , but its honest.

He is the typical 15 - 0 (15 ko) young fighter who hasnt fought anybody, then is thrown in against a guy who smiles at your best punch and says 'ok what else you got?'.

At no point did he move his head, use any lateral movement or use his jab.

There are just so many of these kids who can bang and not a lot else.

Its a hard game though.

Didn't etches say he was down the pecking order in the ingle camp?? Do the ingles have another Middleweight in Thier camp???

 

He is not the first to come unstuck against Khomitsky. He wasn't doing too bad - I thought he won the first and third - but he leaves his chin out there after he has thrown his punches so wide open to be countered.

 

Liam Cameron at the time (about same age as Etches) and Tyan Booth (light-mid but boxed Eubank).

Naz and Johnny Nelson were behind Herol Graham. Then Witter was behind them. Then Brook and Galahad were behind him etc.etc.

To move to someone without a history of producing boxers seemed an odd decision.

 

He built up a healthy fan base, linked up with Jenkins and build a base together, he also linked up with a few businesses to help build himself. For that you have to praise poxon but i think hes lacking with his matchmaking.

He needs to move gyms, that's a fact! And go down the domestic route. Win the Lonsdale, then your back

 

Etches has real physical power, both in terms of strength and punch. But I worry that maybe he lacks other qualities. He strikes me as a guy that might have insurmountable lackings that no trainer or gym can fix. He may plateau soon if he can't introduce new elements into his game. Walking forward with power will only get him so far....

Watch Etches throw a jab to the body. He ducks down, throws it and then stands straight back up from the same spot he threw it from without even bringing his hands back to defend himself. I wouldn't expect a novice with just a few months training to make this mistake so it amazes me that a pro does it.

If he carries on fighting the way he does then Khomitsky is only going to be the first of many KO losses on his record.

 

Barry you're right with your break down, he threw quite a lazy jab in all honesty to the body then he brings himself back up straight and back into the same position he threw the shot from - basics.

Credit to Khomitsky though, he timed it beautifully. Etches was being caught a few times with the right hand up until the stoppage.

That said, I hope Etches can go back to the drawing board and bounce back. Although he was getting caught there and then with the right hand, I actually thought he was beginning to take the strong hold in the fight until he was clocked.
