Khurvin Jhon Natuplag vs. Ronnie Campos, 10 rounds @ featherweight

 

Round 1

Natuplag is jabbing in on Campos, rocking him with a right cross as he trots in on him in a crab stance. Campos ties up, hanging onto Natuplag's waist. They break and Campos lands a couple of hooks and uppercuts to fend Natuplag off. More clinching. Ref has them break immediately. Double jab by Natuplag. Campos picks them off and fires a 1-2 at the chest. 1-2 up top by Natuplag. Campos wrestles Natuplag into the ropes. 1-2-3 by Natuplag, almost spinning himself around with the missed punctuating hook. Campos is sliding his feet back, luring Natuplag out near the perimeter, then sweeping a high lead hook exploding from a crouch and banging a right cross into the guard. Natuplag is hooking over the head but getting Campos' head stuck in the crook of his elbow as Campos ducks.

Round 2

Natuplag is shooting a lulling half-speed jab into the waiting mitts of Campos, then catapulting a right hand whistling over the top. Campos retreats but plants his feet to avoid being trapped in the corner, launching bombs from a crouch and dashing past Natuplag. Campos is spreading his legs wide and overextending his left while jabbing at mid-range. Natuplag giving him space and taking a breather. Clinch as they come together missing jabs. Natuplag steps in with a BIG uppercut swung around the blind side of Campos. Counter combo from Campos catches Natuplag with his head lowered directly in the strike zone. Campos walking forward, crowding Natuplag into the ropes, feinting the jab. Natuplag shows his own jab, seeking a way to get past Campos without engaging. Natuplag sneaks by him but is soon trapped on the opposite set of the ropes, Campos hitting the body and raining overhands. Natuplag turns the tides in the final moments, landing a combination.

Round 3

Natuplag is harpooned with a right hand downstairs, Campos dropping into a deep lunge and then pulling himself out beyond reach after scoring. Cagey start compared with the previous two frames. Natuplag is backed into the ropes with a low 1-2. Campos staying close, pecking upward at the face with an inclined jab. Natuplag isn't firing much. Campos walks him into a corner and Natuplag busts loose with a lead left hybrid hook/uppercut, partly blocked. Campos is on Natuplag like white on rice, holding up as he gets into range, wary of any counter-punch ambushes, but not giving Natuplag any room to maneuver. Lead rights by Campos, pushed off with Natuplag holding both arms out. Clinch. Cuffing left hook on the nape by Natuplag. Campos rushes him onto the ropes and clatters a few shots off the back of the head as Natuplag leans into him to hold.

Round 4

Natuplag is jabbing with Campos in the middle of the ring, getting the worst of it. Natuplag misses a hook and slams down with a hammering right, caught on the left forearm. Running tackle attempt by Natuplag, and he tumbles into a face-plant. Time in. Campos is bobbing in place and lands a flush jab upstairs. Uppercut attempted from outside by Natuplag, hitting arms while Campos replies with his own. Campos' lands a bit south, incidental low blow and Natuplag is on the canvas, lying procumbent. He won't be able to rise, appears this one is over.

Campos mills around for a few minutes in the neutral corner as Natuplag continues staring at the canvas and is ultimately escorted from the ring, with assistance. Finally the announcement is made over the PA that because 4 rounds were not completed, this is going to be ruled a "technical draw".

Tough break for Wowie, as this had the makings of an upset had this eventuality taken place just a round later. (and of course, assuming he got a fair break from the judges, as the B-side - and that Natuplag didn't pull a rabbit-from-a-hat KO in the remainder of the fourth or waxing moments of the 5th...)
