Gurgen Madoyan vs. Kudratillo Xabibullo Ogli Abdukakhorov, 6 rounds @ middleweight

 

Pro debut for Yerevan native Madoyan, who gets a sizable pop from the home crowd. He is turning over after just missing out in the Olympic qualifiers final stage to cap off a decent international amateur run.

Abdukakhorov was at one time a buzzed-about prospect and then ranked contender - but is coming off back-to-back losses. This is his second time suffering consecutive professional defeats, going 2-4 in his last six.

Even slumping, however, the Uzbek is an insanely ambitious target for a first opponent.

 

Madoyan swinging wide and missing with hooks, sometimes grazing the point of Abdukakhorov's chin. Abdukakhorov with some hard rear-hand overhand counters, switching between southpaw and orthodox.

Madoyan showing a good chin. Abdukakhorov isn't a devastating puncher but he's no feather-fist either and these are clean shots.

 

Madoyan having a little success in R3 with a high left jab feint followed by a roundhouse right on the body from outside - but there are only so many times he's going to get away with making Abdukakhorov bite on that, and from mid-range or closer he's getting pieced up in exchanges.

IMO the hometown lad needs a KO to make his fans happy (could still bag a draw I guess if he sweeps the second half) - but he only scored a total of three RSC victories in his amateur career, which doesn't quite speak to having turn-it-around stuff in his mitts.

 

Commentator (don't know his name, but the usual British guy that does English language call for these IBA cards) accusing Madoyan of not making legal scoring contact with the knuckle side of his glove when he does connect - more like palm/wrist strikes.
