That 30 second knockout Khytrov had over Fortune told me nothing. So I went and watched his fights with Julius Kennedy as a pro and Murata as an amateur. The Murata footage makes him look good, but the Kennedy footage shows him getting hit a lot. His defense is wide open, if you could even say that he has one. When he steps up, somebody is going to exploit that and he'll be going to sleep. He's got a good work rate, a good punch, and good offense but if Julius Kennedy wasn't having any trouble finding the target you can bet a seasoned contender won't either.

I'd seen a couple of Khytrov fights before and didn't think much of him. He looked sloppy but with a powerful punch, not like a guy with 500 amateur fights. He's not a technician like Lomachenko or Usyk, one of those guys with high ring IQ where you can see the gears turning in their heads as they fight. He's definitely not a slickster like Rigondeaux. But he doesn't remind me of stalking destroyers Golovkin, Kovalev, or Beterbiev either.

I just spent an hour watching his last two fights. Both were slight steps up from his previous competition. He knocked one out in the eighth round and went the distance with the other. He doesn't remind me of Kovalev. The way he moves, Khytrov reminds me a lot of Brandon Rios.

He's going to have trouble with the first technically sound fighter he meets who has a sound jab and a solid chin and can box him on the outside.

I've been saying for a year or so now that Eubank Jr is better than people think and Khytrov is worse than people think. I'll say this for Khytrov and Lemieux who's similar but farther along the road, they have power and a fan friendly style.

Wait a second, they are the same age. Khytrov is a little behind where he ought to be by 26. Lemieux has a title and is fighting Golovkin already. Eubank is a year younger and has an interim belt. Saunders is a year younger and is fighting Lee for a belt. This boy should maybe hurry up.

    Holy ****, Murata is 29!
