Today is the first time i have thought about boxing since Willys Loss . After the fight I was a bit upset with Willy ,I didnt think he performed as he should have . If followed our game plan would have made the fight very winnable, going into the fight we were very confidant. We had sparred 20 to 30 rnds with Broners last opponent who I thought beat him. I have just finished watching the fight and realised that I was wrong Willy fought a great fight and that he lost it because of some wrong or unlucky decisions made by myself. As everybody knows now Chris John did not defend his title on docters orders as a result of my bad or unlucky wrong decisions. Willy was also effected but only 50% compared to CJ 100%. After we got back in controll of our problems we thought willy was 95 % and this was good enough to get the win over Broner. After reviewing everything this is my oppinion. Willy Kicket lost because as Sally says BAD MANAGEMENT and under the cicumstances I am very proud of Willy he fought a gret fight. I am filthy on myself for making these decisions its not a thing I can change and its not good to see my fighter get stopped because i wasnt smart enough. Willy would fight anybody anytime if i said i thought he would win and thats what he did. Willy will be back and fulfill his potential with smarter management . I just thought I would let you all know what was the curcumstances of the kicket loss as we see it. Sally you were right on the bad management, but not on the money thing. ( I know this is pretty broad in some areas but somethings dont need to be told) Craig Christian
Thanks for the update Craig. I don't think Sally was alluding to poor management as far as decisions made in camp were concerned. On that, can you go in to more detail about why Chris John did not fight? I read that he had a blood disorder and collpased after a sparring session. Willie was affected as well? Can you elaborate on that? I also heard Chris John attended the card which upset some people. Was he invited by GBP to attend? Was it to please his many Indo fans who had bought tickets to the fight? I can't see a problem with a fighter suffering from an illness and attending the card. But I've read elsewhere where it made alot of people unhappy and very dubious of his decision to cancel the fight. I just thought you could set the record straight. Cheers and good luck with Willie and the team.
I thought Kickett's best work was after the 1st round when he started throwing more punches , Bonner looked out of sorts when Willie was busier , it was only when the kid stood back off him and started to admire his own work that Bonner regained the upper hand , Graig man don't be too down on yourself fella , it aint all beer and skittles, losses are common place in any sport and two defeats dosen't automatically signal an end , this is boxing and someone has to lose , i for one will look forward to this kids next fight , good luck :good
Thanks Craig....but a little more info please......some people round here are as thick as bricks....and they are the smart ones So are you saying..... 1. Your game plan was wrong before the fight? 2. Your game plan failed to adapt during the fight? 3. Medical reasons? 4. Wrong or unlucky? 5. Mismatch? 6. Problems under control? Got no idea what your talking about....but I have been on the booze since lunchtime :yep
craig big respect for coming out and saying that, but i think your wrong, i think it was great management against someone he could possibly beat, the risk vs reward was well worth it... if he had of won the fight it would of been a masterstroke... good to hear he is back..
I don't like it when fighters come out with excuses after a defeat. We have all heard the "weight drained" excuse that nearly all boxers use at some point in time. The original poster is alluding to the point that Kickett was suffering from the same illness/condition that caused Chris John to pull out of his fight but they are being a bit vague as to what the condition was/is ? I notice that Kickett's opponent did not get one word of credit for the win. What exactly was wrong with Kickett that caused him to only be "50 %" on the night ? More information is required please.
I agree, losses happen. It's not the end of the world. It was a winnable fight for him too, but he fell short. I don't put it down to bad management.
I've seen the fight. Willy had a great round 2 and 4 from memory. He just got caught. Broner looks like an exceptional good/fast counter puncher, and caught Willy. Cheers Zelky (ignore the Team Hussein bit!!!)
Yeah that's me above not Billy or anyone from Team Hussein. I was still logged in as Team Hussein, after doing the boys a favour with a fight thread.
Willy probably shouldnt have fought a top Golden Boy prospect like Broner at this stage of his career but at least he had a go. I think a slow & steady rise back up for the lad is needed now. He is still young & has many years ahead of him in the sport if he so wishes. There is no reason that with the right development & progression from this step forward that he can challenge for a world title 1 day down the road. He needs his body to mature a bit more into a mans body which will come over the coming few yrs.
