    Is he retired? :huh

If so, what do we make of his relatively brief career in retrospective?

He beat some good fighters (Narh, Augustus, Gogladze), came up short in against very good/great fighters (DeMarco, Campbell, and Casamayor), and had some scares against journeymen (Huerta and Jauregui).

How do you make heads or tails of Almazbek Raiymkulov and the ups and downs of his career?

I just remember him as a guy who punched his heart out despite not having the biggest punch. A guy with at least a grasp of the fundamentals, not a wild brawler, but never progressed past the ham and eggs level as he depended on overwhelming those he could. There to be hit (or put down, with a good shot) but would make you regret it if he gave back as good as he took. Someone who could be outboxed by even an above average boxer, but who was tough to outfight. And inconsistent as hell.

Let's not even bring up "robberies", because between the draw he should have won against Casamayor and the win he should have lost against Huerta it all pans out.

A fighter who just went short of meeting his expectations.

I always thought he was good enough to be a title holder but not "The man" of the lightweight division. Diamond just never improved, he was always the same fighter, I thought he may have changed drastically for the good after the Augustus fight but that was thrown away after Huerta. Pretty sad that he never even got to fight for a title in his career if he indeed retired. As of now he is of the same category as David Diaz is, basically a gatekeeper who is trying to sneak through the gate himself.

Gosh, I remember that scrap of his against Huerta. Pretty damn good fight. I haven't heard anything of Diamond in a long time now, so I have to assume he is retired. But then again, I am only speculating here.

When he stuttered, stammered, and went into complete denial after the Huerta fight I lost all interest in, and respect for, him.

If Diamond were to retire he should give Huerta a well deserved rematch.

Wanna know what's most memorable about him???

The ring labeling him as the next Kostya Tszyu?... that's always he sign someone is gonna fail.

But saw him live against De Marco.. Actually took the fight to De Marco and was winning till late when got tired and De Marco started picking him apart late.

But he should have won against Casamayor. and should have lost to Huerta..

    Is everybody illiterate?

    :readthre:

I specifically addressed this in the first place precisely because it occured to me that a thread on KD would likely degenerate into a bunch of torchmobbing. Look, the Huerta decision disgusted me as much as the next guy - at the time, it seemed a lock for worst robbery I'd witnessed (in real time) to date. But it's one freakin' fight, and far from his most notable. To define him by it is stupid.

Dwelling on it also does nothing to inform an overall assessment of him as a fighter, or his career in its sum.

It's like how that poor ******* in the Euro forum tried to struggle uphill to have a thread on Ottke without any OMGWTFBBQ nonsense about how he was an unskilled protected Eurobum who bought off the judges in all 34 of his victories :)roll:).

Or how people can't discuss Augustus without bringing up how often he was jobbed, instead of focusing on the more important positive aspects of his career - like his battle with Ward, or his grudgematch victory over Burton.

People get so hung up on small **** that the big picture becomes a blur. Yes, if this was a thread about the Diamond-Huerta fight it would be appropriate to express our outrage. It clearly, explicitly isn't.

Posting here feels like teaching kindergarten at times.

"Ya win some robberies, lose some robberies"

Kid Diamond is nearly impossible to really explain. He was consistent in his inconsistency. A very talented fighter who at times showed good heart and at times looked completely disinterested. He reminded me a bit of Morales in the way he fought up (and sometimes sown) to the level of opposition, leading to a lot of close fights that shouldn't of been all that close. The difference was Morales could flick the switch on and pull away from lesser opponents where as Diamond seemed to coast for all 12 rounds. Very talented fighter...just...never seemed to click mentally.

    :thumbsup

He all but admitted to not really training for Campbell (why somebody would take the Galaxxxy Warrior lightly is beyond me...speaks to a lack of mental clicking indeed...) and didn't he just flat-out not show up for a scheduled bout one night?

Yeah, I remember his trainer at the time (Don House?) saying Kid Diamond didn't put in a proper camp for Campbell and was partying it up instead of training. And the reason why he would take Nate lightly is because Nate wasn't highly regarded at the time. Mind you this all took place after Nate had just lost twice to Peden and Lorezno. In the minds of most (myself included) Diamond-Campbell was already a forgone conclusion in favor of Kid D.

I also remember hearing stories of Diamond giving Mayweather fits in sparring and breaking one of his ribs.

It should also be recalled Augustus had to fight him with only a few days notice and had to fight him at 135 instead of 40.

I remember they were calling Kid D Dr Evil that was funny.

He took a lot of good fighters on and he did alright. He came to fight, every division should have a few guys like this to show us DeMarco is headed North and Casa headed South.

You're one of 3-4 posters on the General forum I can stomach, and whom can come up with intelligent questions and form unique perspectives on things. :good

    To elaborate on Kid Diamond...

He absolutely had his ass kicked against Campbell. That was a right hand clinic, if I'm remembering correctly Nate simply kept hitting him with overhand rights. He had no answer for it, and could not avoid them.

Reminded me of the right hand beat downs of Kennedy McKinney against Luisito Espinosa and Witherspoon beating Jorge Luis Gonzalez half to death with a right handed barrage locked in the corner.

Beyond that, Diamond trashed Augustus unlike any fighter I've ever seen before. We're talking mostly 10-8 rounds, a complete one sided ass kicking.

I've seen a lot of Augustus fights and the only other fighter I've seen school him is Dorin, and that wasn't as bad as the Diamond fight. He had more success in the Mayweather fighter then either of those.

His parents were supposedly well off, doctors I think? Reminds me of Barrera a bit.

And thats all I have. :)

Yeah I remember him being a sucker for the right hand throughout his entire career.

At the same time though even in his fight against Demarco, he showed some of the aspects that made him so highly touted. He was active, evasive and showing a good beard if and when Demarco tagged him. I thought he was well in control during rounds 1-6 but somewhere along that line, Demarco turned the tide with his patience and starting digging deep. When he dug deep, Kid Diamond just didn't follow suit. More or less the story of his career.
